Hey guys. I just picked up a very nice condition uncle henry 885 stockman. I love these knives and this one was a good price so I couldn't resist owning another one. The knife I have has the schrade+ tang stamp and is serial number 00404. From my research I would date the knife from 1976 to 1978, I would love to hear what you all think about the date of manufacture. The knife also has the long pull nail nick and long sledge. Chime in with whatever info you all have on dating these knives, they are tricky to date at times but I love the hunt for information.

I won't be any help on the dating question but I just wanted to let you know that the folks on this forum are always asking for pictures!

Glad to have you aboard!

The serial numbers started over whenever there was a tang stamp change, so yours is a very, very early SCHRADE + stamped knife, which first appeared in the catalogs in Jan. 1978. So most likely from the first half of 1978 as they continued to use up the older blades.

Thanks so much black mamba, I knew it had to be an early schrade+ but wasn't sure when that stamp started. I love collecting the old schrade knives or any USA made knives for that matter; but there is something special about the old schrade knives, probably because when I was younger I remember so many men that I was around that carried them.
