I am hoping someone can give me some information on a slipjoint I got from ebay. It appeared to be an Uncle Henry 885UH, but when I received the knife, the clip blade had these markings:

S.C.C.+
USA 886UH

The knife is mint , appears to be of lighter construction than the 885, and I can only see one brass pin through the delrin scales on each side. What is it and when was this knife manufactured? Is it pre-Imperial stock?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Rgb52,

Your knife is from the Imperial years, and the Uncle Henry Trademark has been used from 1967 to present. You might want to check with Bernard Levine, and repost this in his forum.

The only other thing I can add is that over the years, I, too, have had a few Schrade models that varied in weight, although they were almost the same pattern. May be they were an attempt to make a lighter knife for daily carry?

HTH:D:).

Hello everyone,

Here is the response from Schrade on the 886UH I have just aquired.

The model 886UH was not a regular product in the Uncle Henry line, but it was a specially ordered Uncle Henry item that was manufactured exclusively in the very early 1980's (probably around 1982) for a hardware distribution chain across the U.S. that are now out of business (I believe it might have been Belknap). It was not considered to be a high quality product, as this chain was looking for a "low-end", "low-cost" item, and so it was specially made for them. There was a total of about 30,000 of these items shipped during that time, so they can be considered to be fairly collectible. I guess it could be considered to be a limited edition knife, even though it was not manufactured as such. The retail at that time was only about $18.00. There was no Loss Warranty included with these knives, but if someone did claim a loss, we still honored it.

I hope this is helpful, and if we can be of any further assistance, please let us know.

Best Regards,

IMPERIAL SCHRADE CORP.

Thanks for your help everyone.

Thanks for the info. It is nice to learn something like this.

I guess when you consider how many of certain knives are out there that 30,000 is a limited quantity, but I am not so sure that that in itself makes this a collectable knife.

KWM, you are right, there is nothing special about this knife at all. It is just a scaled back version of the 885UH, but it is interesting to find out what is was. It is mint with the box, so keeping t around for a while cannot hurt. I also collect hammers and hammer heads and the Belknap brand is quite a common commodity, sometimes commanding a great price, but then, this is not a hammer is it? Thanks for the help everyone.

Probably not. But, you could try it. Someone would probably just yell at you about the right tool for the job or something.

Hello
After reading this thread I felt compelled to reply to the wrong information given to you by IMPERIAL SCHRADE CORP. I will present you with hard factual information and actual photo's of the first 886UH'S to leave the Camillus Factory. They did in-fact come with a Loss Claim Certificate which is marked 886UH. In the following picture you will notice the Loss claim Certificate and in the lower right hand corner the corresponding Model Number.

Since you have responded to an eleven year old thread and Schrade is long out of business and unable to respond, I am closing this.
