I carried my Uncle Henry LB6 ( didn’t realize it was the 6 until today) with me today to work and I happen to take a break...I was looking up online to see what I paid for it and I happen to come across the blade forums that someone was asking about the LB6. Is this a hard to find knife? I bought it new from a Meijers store in Bay City Michigan years ago. As soon as I can I will post pics.

Those are still readily available on Ebay in various conditions and at various prices. If you aren't in a big hurry you can find really nice ones now and then. Some are junk and overpriced so take your time. Yours outlasted the company that made it so it had to be made pretty well. I like the LB 7 and the 7 OT models and will nab a nice one when I can at a decent price which seems less often nowadays. The new PRC made versions of Schrade just don't appeal to me so I stick to older USA Schrade stuff.

I never knew there was an LB6. I purchased an LB5 and an LB7 in the 80's. Gave my LB7 to my cousin; I preferred the smaller knife. When I wanted something larger, I carried a Gerber A-425 Armorhide hunting knife fixed blade with a metal handle. It sits mostly forgotten since I moved off the farm. I still have the box and paperwork.

Ah, the good old ones. I think I would prefer smaller, as the LB7 is heavy.

Recently, there was someone selling the newer Chinese-made "Schrade" LB7s with white bone scales for $6 each. Obvious old stock (bit of brass tarnish), perhaps seconds. But a whole lot better than the $3.87 Walmart knives.

Schrade's numbering system is best described as "inexact". They were making knives for users instead of collectors, so all sorts of things got made and didn't get into the official catalogs.

I always wanted to see a modern version of the lb7 with machined out pockets under the brass bolsters and holes in the liners to save weight...

David, we can't see the image. You need a hosting site to use this feature at your membership level.

Is your knife a brass and wood lockback or a black synthetic liner lock with a coated blade ?

I think the knife you have is the LB8. The engraving is probably shallow or obscured and the "8" looks like a "6".

That is very possible. It doesn't take much wear to make changes to the stamp. Good thinking Stelth. It's pretty logical but it didn't cross my mind and it's the most probable answer to this riddle.

The knowledge base and experience here make this a great place to spend time. :) Thanks !

My dad was selling Schrade Knives in the late 70's. I bought the
a LB7 Bear Paw from him. I still have it, in great shape too. Some
day it'll be my son's.

David,
What's the overall length and blade length? I'm thinking that if it's 5" OAL, its most likely an LB8...
