I was going to post this in the Schrade S/F , but I figured the same folks hang out here too.. Besides that, I wanted to show a few pics of it, I really like this knife :D

I have an Uncle Henry 885 that I have had for a few years.. I'm not very good at tellin the age of the Schrades, and don't remember if I ever knew roughly when it was made...

The knife is mint (sorry about the pics, the batteries were about dead in the camera). I have the original hinged UH felt lined box with all the papers including the unfilled warranty card. It has the milled(?) liners. I really like those, I think it adds a nice touch...Just curious to find out when it was made.. Thanks

Your pics look pretty good to me. Nice find too.

1970 was the first year for the 885UH. The SCHRADE WALDEN stamp changed to SCHRADE NY in 1973, so yours can be any of those 4 years. What is the serial number inside the liner (back right side)? I think I can see it peeking over the edge of the front handle.

I have two SCHRADE NY, one with serial #72824, and the other is J0418. The hinged boxes went away at the same time as the tang stamp change.

Thanks for the info thawk... The serial number is 17485.
I was going to take a pic with the box and paperwork, but was to lazy to go through the safe :D Thats one of the things I really like about it, Its the only one I have with the hinged box. What does the J prefix on yours stand for ? I like the UH's but only have 8 of them. Always on the lookout for another though..

The J was a way to keep the digits at 5 (A, B, C, C ...). It is the newer of the two I have. The 17485 is the actual number of 885's made at that time. After 99999 they started with an A#### (something like that anyway).

I have a couple of 897UH in the hinged box like yours. And I agree, the milled liners are a nice touch. I keep looking for an 885UH and the 285UH Trapper in the Walden version.

Check out the long pull on the one I have:

Very nice. Yours does have a lot longer pull than mine...
Every time I take this one out, the first thing I think of is, I wish it had a Match Strike Long Pull on it :D.. That would be the finishing touch. It would really tie in good with the liners.
That would be great to find a 285 Walden. Mine isn't quite that old.

Yes, they would look better with the matchstrike. I took this pic last year, and an 885UH would look good in there.

Those are some nice ones... The Match strike really does add a nice touch. Thanks for sharing the pic.

Nice 885UHs guys! I use to prefer the Old Timer but I got sick of taking care of those blades especially in the summer! Mine is one of the last shipped out after the closing:(!
