Hello, need your help please. Is there a way to date Schrade Uncle Henry knives, a specific knife? I know Case has their dot system, just wondered if these had anything similar.

Also, on the older ones are the blades carbon? They seem like decent knives, do you have any pros or cons from your experiences.

Thank you very much!

There are no dots to count, or dates to read. Your best bet is to provide pictures, and show the tang stamp. Check for other stampings on secondary blades. There are sometimes ways to tell, but often tiimes we resort to the SWAG dating method.

Any serial number? Is it an LB7 or LB8? There are many types of Uncle Henry models.

Robert Clements booklet"A Catalog History of Schrade Knives-Uncle Henry & Old Timer" gives the dates for first date of production and last date of production for each model so if you give us the model Number on Tang we can narrow down for you..for example Uncle Henry 124UH named Tradesman/Maverick was first produced 1985 and last date was 1988 so only 4 year production period.
The 124UH gets under the guard of a lot of Schrade collectors because its the smaller short body 4" closed single full saber clip blade staglon handle Uncle Henry classic folding hunter style and you dont see a lot compared to its bigger brother Uncle Henry's <25OT,125OT,127UH & 227UH> Its not a lock blade either.
I just got a 124UH in a Schrade Special Factory order Corporate Gift Set from mid 80's containing 6 different Mint Uncle Henry models all in a single display box and it looks stunning to see all the staglons with their Uncle Henry shields together. Hoo Roo.

Thank you guys.....my camera is not cooperating, but on the main blade (actually both blades are about the same size, the one I'll refer to as the second blade is just a little more narrow, the main balde seems to be a clip point)...anyway the main blade has Schrade USA 227UH.......the second blade just has the letters UH. I hope this helps some, seems like a good solid knife, and it has the snap sheath as well. Thanks for any help you can give me. Blades don't seem to be stainless, but I could be way wrong.

From thawks link (thanks thawk) looks like it's from 1973-1986, any idea what the blades are made of based on the markings? It's in great shape, seems like a good field knife.

The 227UH Folding Bowie has Schrade+ Stainless steel blades.Large full sabre clip and large skinning blade 5 1/4" closed.Brass linings and nickel silver bolsters and liners.Hole in rear bolster for lanyard. Listed in 1972 catalog for $15. Last catalog price in 1983 was $41.95.Tang stamp should show Schrade+. Hoo Roo

Post Script: I should have personally checked my own 227UH which does not have Schrade+ on Tang just Schrade USA 227UH, and has UH on second blade like yours Thundermoon. Most of above I printed from Robert Clement's booklet without checking and sometimes we find anomolies with the printed fact.Mine still appears to be stainless steel however.
