I saw a news report on the snow and damage of heavy snow in Reno, about an hour ago. More snow to come.

How are you holding up? My thoughts are with you.

Love the snow. Cuss the snow. Don't shovel! One of my neighbors was hauled away this A.M. due to heart attack while shoveling heavy snow.

Awning and roof okay. We got out handyman to shovel the snow off both items yesterday. I was okay with 2 feet of snow laying up there but there's a chance we could end up with 2 MORE feet so I thought discretion might be the better part of valor and will start today's battle of the snow with a clean slate -- or more accurately clean roof and awning.

However, a few here in the park were not so lucky. We lost about 8 or 10 awnings and three roofs.

Thanks for concern.

My wife worries about me and I'm in my early '40's.

Fortunately, we usually have pretty good "solar-powered" snow removal here. But it ain't 2 feet.

Does this kind of thing happen in Reno on occasion, or is it a freak occurence?

I lived in a (very) little town between LV and Reno when I was a child (on the course of an underground river, but that's another story). We got snow several times, but it was always just a dusting. This round seems quite unusual.

Fernley, Fallon, Yerington, Schurz, Walker Lake, Hawthorne, Luning, Mina, Silverpeak, Tonopah, Goldfield...?

For a second there, I thought this thread was titled Uncle - How Is Your Porsche Holding Up?

 :)

There were pics in todays paper of Reno and the snow there. I was wondering how Uncle Bill and Yangdu were faring myself after seeing those.
The helluvit is that after so much snow there isn't anywhere to put any new snowfall so that makes it tenfold worse! :grumpy:
Sure glad to see that Uncle Bill had some foresight to get things cleaned off beforehand!!!! :D

Don't hold me to the spelling - Beatty. One gas station (pop bottles down in the cold, cold water) , one cafe ("Good Food and Muddy Coffee"), one hotel/ gambling hall/restaurant (best record playing in the J-box, over and over - "Tennessee Waltz"), one general store/Sears agency, one two-room K-12 school. We lived 14 miles from town. Nearest neighbor 4 miles away. Owww. Look at that flash over the mountains. Testing again. Great times.

I don't like that job at all, removing snow off roof.

Before our drought years set in, I woke up one morning, house was cold, very cold. Furnace pilot light was out. Tried to relight several times without success. Went out and looked at the roof. The heavy accumulation of snow and drifting had completely covered my furnace drafts on the roof. Finally got up enough nerve to get up there and remove the snow, then was able to relight the furnace.

Used to have about a foot of snow or more on the ground from Dec thru March or April. 7,000 ft in the East Mountains East of Albuquerque. Haven't had decent rainfall or snow for about 5 years. Storms have been going north or south of my immediate area. Little sprinkle going on right now. Sure need the moisture.

:) To keep this knife related. LOL Lack of humidity sure keeps me busy on all my horn handles. Have to check them all at least once a month. Some of the horn handles are really beautiful, but I'm partial to wood handles or antler. I think they are easier to keep up as far as maintenance goes.

Heart attacks, yeah, I bought a snow blower just for that reason. For the last few years, haven't had to use it. Checked it out, got a small leak somewhere in my gas lines. Have to tear it apart a bit to get access to the lines.

In 1960 I lived in Syracuse, N.Y. We had one storm that dumped so much snow on us that the barn collapsed where the snow plows were kept. They had to dig them out by hand before they could plow the streets.

A couple of friends and myself got work for a couple of days digging out railroad switches. I think it paid $5.00 an hour. The highest paying job I had up to then paid $1.30 an hour. If it weren't for the frozen feet and fingers, I would have felt ashamed to have taken the money as we spent most of the time just standing around waiting for someone in charge to make decisions.

Beatty. Yeah, they had water, and that's the name I was trying to remember.

This weather is the exception. Worst winter we've had since I've been here which is 12 years. I actually hate it.

Pineapple Express. I bet it's the same winter condition that killed the Donners.

Sort of acute change in weather lately! Few days ago I read News about the first time snow in UAE! It's quit surprising!

We do'nt have snow in South East Asia .. but .. we just hit by a Tsunami .. and it was a disasterous one .. especially in Aceh (Indonesia), Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu (India) and Phuket (Thailand)!
