Uncle Mofo & Marco Bolo... separated at birth?

I have not held either. On the surface they look very similar with the obvious difference being blade length, choiless Bolo, and handle choices. The recurve design is very appealing and pleasing to the eye. The swedge on the Mofo is unique and I dig it. On the surface the Uncle Mofo may be the ultimate Busse fighting knife. The Bolo looks quicker in the hand due to the shorter blade length. The Uncle Mofo looks like a decent chopper too. Not sure of the production numbers of each.

I will say the Uncle Mofo grind screams BEEF

Thoughts and first hand experience with each and preferably both are welcome and appreciated.

I have both, although they are unused. If you are interested in some info like dimensions, weight, side-by-side pics, balance points, or just how they feel in hand cutting air, PM me and I'll try to accommodate.

My experience with MOFO, not a great chopper, atleast with the wood I chopped on. Was actually a bit surprised. It batons pretty well and gets through the small stuff ok though. I dont do much knife fighting in my spare time, but if I did, the mofo would be one of my top choices. It surely is one of the prettiest busses ever imo.

(#2 is no longer in my possession but it will be in the future)

Well it as least looks like it would do some chopping and fighting. Nice score on those numbers and thanks for the pics.

Got your PM yesterday. I'll let you know and thanks as well.

Addded thoughts are appreciated.

I will just say that if it doesnt have the EU handle like the one above then I would put it back.

I will post here in case anyone else wants the information:

Uncle MOFO
weight - 17.9 oz.
thickness - .22
OAL - 14"
blade length - 8.625"
edge length - 7.625"
balance point - .5" in front of the micarta

Marco Bolo
weight - 15.3 oz.
thickness - .22
OAL - 12.25"
blade length - 6.75"
edge length - 6.187"
balance point - middle of the front hole of the micarta

I do not feel one is clearly livelier in the hand than the other. The MB is definitely more handle heavy. The false edge on the UM is not even close to being sharp and appears to be more aesthetics than anything else. Making it sharp will certainly remove enough metal that the balance point would move back towards the handle. Here is a comparison pic of the two as well.

Awesome Chris and thanks for taking the time to post your link, thoughts, and pics. Thanks to others as well

I ended up buying the Uncle Mofo LE. If it feels "right" I'll sharpen the swedge and go from there. I'm kinda surprised there's not more shatter about these. If it feels and perform as good it looks...a winner for sure. I'll keep you guys posted.

I think you will like the UM LE. I have been meaning to get some pants made for mine, but like everything else, there never seems to be enough time. Congrats on your score and do post your thoughts on the knife after you have had a chance to swing yours around.

Ah, that indicates you are one of the cognescenti who appreciates the superiority of the rare EU handled version. ;)

Do you have one (or, knowing you, more than one  ) of these?

Full flat ground, this one should be pretty quick in hand...even though it doesn't actually exist yet. :)

i still like my mr.mojo but I think i would favor the EU handles myself. one day!

What the!!! How the!!! Who the!!!

Seriously! Does this one actually exist? If so we might just have another one for the ole grail list. :)

Does this one actually exist?

The only person I know who can answer that question at this point is Garth. ;)

Edited to add: the blade thickness is .230", not 3/16" as I stated earlier.

ugh! that knife is driving me crazy now!

if I saw a pricetag on it I would be selling anything and everything i could to get that one. I guess all I could do now is beg and plead for someone, somehow, someway, somewhere, someday to make and sell this blade.

I pick the worse grails ever to want! can't even talk about the #1 but now this is high on list.

I think there is not much shatter about the Uncle/Mr. Mofo/Mefo because the production was fairly limited and it is an incredibly beautiful knife. For both reasons most of the knives are locked up in safes and will possibly never taste wood. Same with mine until now :o But I will use it eventually. I hope. Maybe. Uhhh... wait! No promises :foot: ;)

The only "complaint" I have is that for my hands the scales could be a little bit thicker. Liners might be something to consider if you share my impression. I'm curious how you like it

Got the knife with multiple undisclosed scratches. It was from a long time member, so I'm hoping it was not only an oversight, but he will make it right. If I was 100% sure it was going to be a "custom shop user", I'd probably be less concerned...

Disappointed:grumpy:

Edit: Seller has offered to rectify the issue to my satisfaction.

On both sides? Kydex kisses? Sorry for your disappointment. If the seller cooperates it shouldn't be a big deal for the Busse Custom Shop to restore the satin finish. Hope everything is going to be all right.
