I was removing the Spyderco Centofante 3's tip down carry clip placement. My plan was to make it tip up of course.

I don't know why, but for some reason I picked it up and played around with it before the modification.

Wow what a great feeling "in hand". Light, flat and superb ergonomic feeling.

I guess you had to be here. Thought I'd share! :D

I made the same mod. In the tip down position the clip interfered with my grip. It feels like a whole different knife with tip up. Didn't spend much time fondling it with the clip off but I'm sure it'd be nice.

I don't think I'm putting it back on. It's a great office knife for me and the fit is like the designer came and measured my hand and made the little bugger just for me! (just opened two boxes and a padded envelope - in style!)

I wonder if the good feeling of going clippless is akin to the feeling woman get when going braless?

A few months back I stumbled on a SS/kraton Stretch. The provenance I heard was that it was an incidental second from a factory tour in Seki, but in any event there is no clip. I've got a clip on the way from SFO, but in the meantime I am enjoying the clean, uncluttered, FLAT profile.

There might just be something to clipless...

With very rare exceptions, I don't use 'em either. Most every knife I have feels and handles better w/o a clip. Since I just drop 'em in my pocket anyhow, the clip is pretty useless for me. The only exceptions are my Paras when they ride IWB. I started out carrying knives with no clips, holes, studs, or locks a long time ago and it still feels pretty natural to carry and use knives in their "bare bones" configuration.

I like clips for a couple reasons. When clipped to the pocket it keeps the pivot out of the bottom of my pocket and any lint and sand that can cause the action to get gritty.

I also pinch the clip with the tips of my fingers so that I have a good purchase that keeps my fingers out of the way of the blade while manipulating the lock or a flipper.

It also keeps the blade in easy access so when I need to quickly cut something I can have the knife in my hand in a second and use whatever one handed opening system it has, use the knife, and have the knife back in my pocket in less time than it would take to fumble through my pocket contents to dig out my clipless knife.

I do keep a knife dropped in my pocket that I use the pocket clip as a money clip and sometimes carry a slipjoint. They both take time to dig out and are gritty when I go to use them.

So I guess I like pocket clips :D

the only time i ever use pocket clips is if i want to carry iwb. but i have taken to carrying slipjoints recently so it's not a problem :)
