Hi

I'm thinking about one of those AG Russell Camillus EDC's with the D2 blade. It looks to be uncoated. If true, what sort of care and feeding does this (or any other uncoated D2 blade) require??

Basically, if I keep it dry between uses, should it be fine?

I won't want to cary it if I have to get my pocket all oily :)

Thanks!

I've had the EDC in D2 for about a year now. It's gotten wet, been carried camping for a week in high humidity, etc... As long as I've wiped it off and kept it dry it's been fine. I haven't oiled the blade yet, and I've had no problems with rust.

pud: D2 is a "semi-stainless". It's not going to rust like a uncoated Kabar made in 1095, but it'll rust if there's high humidty, or if you let water or soaked items sit on it. Salt water will definately be worse.
Make sure you wipe it dry when it gets wet, and maybe coat it with Tuff-Glide or maybe even mineral oil once in a while. Flitz should take rust spots out fairly quickly.

All my knives get a coating with it. My D2 knives are mostly Dozier's... we all know Dozier D2 is "magical".;) Seriously, I've never had a rust problem with D2 and tuff-glide. Great steel IMO.

The D2 in my P.J. Turner uluchet has done very well in rust-resistance. I just clean it off after use, hose it down if necessary, and dry it well. If it is going to sit for awhile, I wipe it with a little RustFree.
