Uncommon/common? Endura w/ black serrated blade?

Hi, I am curious to how common these were? Were they numbered and sold only to collector clubs, or available to the masses? TIA!

I bought one of the black-blade enduras(serrated) about 4-5 years ago or so, im pretty sure i bought it from cutleryshoppe, but im not certain. it served me well, and the black finish held up really well.
i just switched to a plain edge later on cause im too lazy to sharpen the serrations

The black blade Enduras and Delicas were a regular production item. They were only made with full serrated blades. Discontinued around 1995 if I remember right.

I believe Spyderco had a slight problem with the coating. The heat used to apply the coating was causing problems with the blade temper. Or it just wouldn't hold up under hard use. One of those two. I do know they carried them for awhile. I also know where a black bodied/ black blade Spyderco Worker is located. Unless its been sold.

Didn't they (Spyderco) also make a black Police model as well? Or was that done by another company aftermarket? A friend had one, which I almost bought, but he broke the tip off. Any chance that Sp. will bring it back?

EK - both Spyderco and aftermarket companies have coated Police models. At this time there are no immediate plans for coating them, but we are aware that some would like them.

I sure do not want to be a pain, but I would buy a Military with the Black Titanium Carbonitride Coating, or two... I can also vouch for a few of my co-workers, that they would be interested in black coated Military knives too, (being very tactical). Was there any particular reason for the Black Coatings to be discontinued?
