I should have posted this thank you thread a LOOONG time ago, but apparently the older I get, the more I procrastinate. :(
At least it's somewhat fitting that I do this on Canada Day, since I'm celebrating the generosity of a couple of our Canadian members, among others.

I'm not the most politically aware guy in the world, but I do know that the Commonwealth of Nations (formerly known as the British Commonwealth, I think) is some kind of association of nation-states, most of which were former British colonies or territories. The 53 member states include, for example, Australia, Bahamas, Canada, India, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.

Way back in April, I was the recipient of incredible generosity from two BF members from Canada!! Out of the blue, within less than a week of one another, Mike (Crazy Canuck) from Alberta and Ken (Itsasportsbar) from Nova Scotia offered to send me knives! In a classic case of "when it rains, it pours", both packages arrived in my mailbox on the same day! ;)

Mike (who had given me some of the most useful advice I ever received near the beginning of my time at BF when he suggested how I could avoid the double post plague) actually offered me the choice between TWO knife models in which I had expressed some interest when Porch residents posted them. I chose a harvest orange pocket worn TruSharp Case humpback stockman, and man, that was a fantastic decision! Here are some photos of the knife Mike so generously gave me:

The main draw of this particular model for me is the spearpoint main blade, and it's everything I hoped it would be! What I wasn't expecting is how silky smooth and even sensual the pocket worn bone handles are; it's almost like grabbing a handful of butter! Also, the spey blade is VERY thin and slicey, which I really enjoy. Mike warned me that the knife had some blade rub, but, as you can probably see in the last photo above, any blade rub is very minimal! Thanks again, Mike for such a standout stockman!:thumbup:

I've always admired Ken's daily pairs of knives posted in the "totin' today" thread, especially since one of the knives in each pair is often an interesting, and often hard-to-find, Victorinox Alox SAK of some kind. One day, I got email from Ken saying, "I do have one or two duplicates of some of the knives I post so in the spirit of this amazing traditional forum I would like to send off to you a package to help cure your alox pox." ;) Little did I know that I would receive the incredible abundance of Alox I'm about to display!
An '86 Soldier is the first Soldier SAK I've ever had!

A red Secretary (with an Elinox tang stamp) that's even slimmer than my Pocket Pal. It's pictured with a sensational Canadian Centennial dollar.

A brilliant blue Pioneer Pruner with the first hawkbill blade I've ever had (except for a kind of worn one on a Holub electrician's knife I have), and the first "old cross" Vic shield/insignia I've owned.

A silver Alox Classic. I'm a big fan of the Classic, although I replaced my red celidor Classic with a Minichamp some time ago as part of my EDC. But the Minichamp will have to share time with the incredibly classy Alox Classic; Ken has certainly raised my level of "apparent sophistication" with this gift!

A silver Cadet, that nicely complements the red Cadet I've had for quite some time. The Cadet is such a fine SAK!

Another Cadet, the nearly-mythical Cadet II (which actually existed before the current Cadet). I've always been drawn to the Cadet II for it's pen blade in place of the current Cadet's file, and I find the parallel ribbed Alox and old-style shield aesthetically pleasing.

I should point out that Ken pulled some shenanigans on me, with his email indicating he'd send me "one or two" knives, but 6 amazing knives actually arriving in my mailbox! (Unless Canadians count differently than I do?) Be that as it may, thanks so much for the cornucopia of Alox you so generously sent my way, Ken.

Shenanigans, it seems that I have heard that word mentioned on these pages before.
Gary, congrats on a mailbox full of great knives! :D

Interesting. The red Cadet I bought at Wally's last year has the pen blade. I did not know they made one with the file.
Very nice collection. I'm sure you'll enjoy them.

WOW!!!! That 86 soldier with the waffen kontrol stamp is a gem! The O.C. Pruner is no slouch either. All beauties from 2 generous Canadians, outstanding.

Ken and Mike make the porch proud. Way to go gentlemen:eek::eek::eek:

Gary, you are one fine fellow yourself and a pleasure to have grace the porch :D The place makes me smile!

Wow!!!!!

Gary, you certainly have favor with someone up there... enjoy.
Mike, Ken, way to go...very generous gifts given to an outstanding guy!

I'm so glad you're enjoying it, and great pictures GT :) If you hadn't mentioned it, I almost wouldn't have recognized it as the same knife!

That's a wealth of great knives GT :) Well done to our generous Canadian members, great stuff guys

That is an amazing group from two outstanding members:thumbup: I especially like the Cadet II, enjoy them!

I received a PW humpback from Will sometime ago and I just can approve how nice a knife it is to handle! We are lucky guys! :D

This thread just made my day.:D
Congratulations on some fine specimens Gary.
Well done from our northern constituents.

Outstanding folks can be found most anywhere if you take the time to look. In a time where so much focus is on the bad that people do these type of threads are uplifting. That humpback is a real looker!

Ken and Mike what generosity . Congratulations Gary. The folks on the porch are with out a doubt are some of the finest anywhere.

Love seeing threads like this, reminds you how awesome this place is! Congrats on receiving some great knives, GT; nice work Mike and Ken!

Thanks, Ron. IIRC, you definitely know plenty about shenanigans!! :D

Thanks, Steve. Man, I wish you could post photos; I'd love to see your red Cadet with spear AND pen blades!

Thanks, Captain; getting that reaction from an Alox aficianado like you means a lot!

Mike, Ken, way to go...
My feelings exactly, redsparrow, and undeserved favor at that! I remember my first ever "thanks thread" was titled something like "Amazing Grace" and I still feel that way!

I'm so glad you're enjoying it, and great pictures GT :) If you hadn't mentioned it, I almost wouldn't have recognized it as the same knife!
Thanks for the fantastic knife, Mike! A knife has to be incredibly stunning to look good even in MY photos! :D

Thanks, Ernie; the Cadet II was on my "BOLO" list for a long time!

Agree totally on our good fortune, Jolipapa! I remember admiring your humpback, as well as one Frank has, and I think Rick T. (Railsplitter) may have been the first to call the model to my attention.

I'm pleased you're enjoying the knives.

Thank you for the kind comments.

Have a great day everyone!

Ken K.
Thanks again, Ken, for gifting me such an abundance of alluring Alox!!

Thanks, Gev & Bob & arrowhd & Randy & Barrett, and I completely agree with your assessments. Mike and Ken are 2 guys that exemplify the uncommon generosity that seems so commonplace (and uplifting) here on The Porch!:thumbup:

Thanks, Jack! Of course, Canada isn't the only member of the Commonwealth of Nations from whence I've received uncommon generosity, as I hope to show in the next post! ;)

The Commonwealth of Nations is quite a large collection of nation-states, and I've been the recipient of generosity from citizens of Commonwealth members other than Canada. I've expressed my appreciation previously to a couple of our English members, but I thought I'd include a brief reprise here, given the title of the thread.

I won a GAW sponsored by R.c.s. back in September, I think. He sent me this superb A. Wright and Son lambsfoot senator in stag (as well as a nice Sheffield key fob, among other souvenirs).

Some nice filework, too:

Thanks for the marvelous knife, Rick!

I (and many other BF members, I'd wager) have benefitted from Jack Black's legendary largesse!! Last October, Jack sent me a fascinating ring opener (as well as an interesting post card, a mysterious "button spanner", and a British penny that I immediately declared to be a "lucky coin").

Thanks for the educational and entertaining gifts, Jack!

But that wasn't the end of Jack's generosity (it may be limitless :p)! He sent me a surprise package in March, I think, containing these treasures:

If you recognize these, it's obvious from my photo that I didn't, at first, since I have them set up in a completely useless orientation. Here's an identifying shot, and one of the knife rests in use:

Thanks, Jack, for taking on the Herculean task of trying to teach me some manners and sophistication!! :D

LOL! You're very welcome my friend, I'd completely forgotten about those! :D  I did promise to send another member here a 'ring opener', and as luck would have it, I haven't come across one since! Hopefully soon :)
