Made up these shorty punches, to be held in tongs, for use under my anyang 33. Just turned em from 6150 1" round. small, medium, and larger, plus a sort of slot punch.

I do realize the shoulders on the slot punch are too sharp, I need to find an easier way to make them with a radius. They are about 2" tall, I only have about 6" of throat on my little hammer so the tooling has to be short :D Let me know what you all think.

Those are pretty cool, Sam:thumbup: I love seeing how some of the guys here fabricate their own tools, it's very inspiring.

I wanna see 'em in action!!! :D

Good stuff Sam! From what I've seen, the most versatile blacksmiths have some machining tricks up their sleeves...

.

Could you have used a ball mill for that part of the cut?

Nathan that's a good idea!

Thanks guys.

Johnny, toolmaking is one of my favorite things to do!

Nick I love basic machining, turning is very fun. I really like to grind my own cutters from Hss barstock for different things, IE I ground a special cutter for the radius on these guys. I'll try and shoot a vid or photos next time i'm home.

Dave, yeh they are, but I might end up going an entirely different route, they'll be useful for other stuff too!

Yes, I'll do them in the forge with the pyrometer, temper in the oven. wish I could put them through the real prescribed temps but I don't have anything with more control.
