Sitting around feeling a little nostalgic. Fall is in full swing, which means winter is just days away and the sun will be gone for the next 7 months. The snow will be flying and Ill reflect back to the field trip I took to the old Camillus plant.
That trip was the reason I initially hunted down and purchased a Camillus version of the BK10 Crewman. I liked it so much, I decided to put it carefully in the display case (so I would not do something stupid like us it) and make a copy out of a BK7. Ive enjoyed it.
Well, fast forward to this week and the arrival of my KaBar BK10. Nice knife, but it just does not give me that warm and fuzzy feeling like the old one. Gee, Id even be willing to trade it straight up for an old Camillus version, in mint or darn close to it condition. Just sayin'.
I did put the Micarta scales on my Ritter / Becker, and with the hardware I used, and the holes being just an RCH too small, those handles are on the Ritter / Becker to stay. Original Grivory is still on it, thanks to Derek.
That being said, here is a comparison display of the three knives.
Notice the height of the grind on the Camillus compared to the KaBar. Mine is closer to the Camillus.
My swedge, or false edge more closely compares to the Camillus. I prefer the shorter swedge.
This shot really shows the difference in the swedge grind. I really like the beefy grind on the Camillus over the KaBar. I tried to stay close to the Camillus. Basically, I have to admit, I'm disappointed in the KaBar. Wish they stuck to the Camillus specs.
Okay Al, here ya go. I added the original Camillus version to the mix so everyone can see the difference.
And here is where the Micarta wound up.
