• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

It’s not often that I’m surprised by something in the mail — usually it’s just bills and junk mail o_O — but I certainly got a surprise today! It was a package from France, from Âchillepattada Âchillepattada , and it contained this beautiful pocket knife made by Stephane Thomachot! :D :D

I’m not sure what the wood is (olive, maybe?), but dang, it looks good! The pile side isn’t too shabby, either. ;) :D

I really like the big, broad blade with its slight belly. It’s a good size in relation to the handle, nice and thin behind the edge, and I like that it’s offset from the handle a bit when open. The shape of the blade (and the offset edge) reminds me a bit of a santoku kitchen knife; I think it will make an excellent picnic knife!

There’s some beautiful filework on the back of the spring…

…and even a little hidden filework on the end of the spring inside the blade well.

The only feature I failed to take a photo of is the small cutout and pin at the end of the handle for a fob or lanyard (you can just barely see it in that last photo).

Âchillepattada Âchillepattada , I can’t thank you enough for this wonderful gift! The knife is fantastic, and I look forward to using it!

I believe some thanks are also due to Jolipapa Jolipapa , who (according to the note included with the package) suggested that I might appreciate this knife, and (I’m assuming) provided my address. Thanks to you both — merci beaucoup!

(Oh, and I hope my French — or rather, Google’s French — was correct in this thread’s title!) :D

Magnificent! I mean "Magnifique!" I believe that is called a Langres (I have one with stag that looks like that), also a gift from Âchillepattada Âchillepattada . I don't think that's olive wood-- I would guess juniper, but I'm sure Âchillepattada Âchillepattada knows and can inform us. Congrats!

Âchillepattada is a generous man!! Nice gift, Barrett!! Could it be a gift to one bringing a new person into the world? A recognized proud Dad??

My guess is it is a European walnut burl!! Nice knife!
(I think there is a thread for Stephane's knives around here somewhere!!):D

Thanks, everyone! I really am very impressed with this knife! And, of course, blown away by Âchillepattada’s generosity!

Your guesses on the wood are as good (probably better) than mine! :D Hopefully  will be able to enlighten us!

I knew I’d seen one some time back. Had to search for it, as it was buried a few pages back, but I just posted over there as well.

The blade shape and style is ultra, will tackle any food task and more;)

That’s exactly what I was thinking!

Hello everybody , Hi Barrett,
Well, it took a long long time to this parcel to cross the ocean

I'm very selfishly happy you appreciate this knife. No generosit, it's my pleasure to share .
Charlie's knowledge seems definitely limitless , the handle is in stabilized European walnut burl .
The Langres is a rural heavy duty knife so use it and enjoy .

Thanks to the Porch to give us all these occasions to share .
