Hi guys sorry if this is a stupid question but when i'm sharpening my blades i notice that once i move from my dmt coarse to my dmt fine i find that there is an uneven "shine" on the edge (grind?) when i hold it up to the light which becomes even more apparently when i move to my dmt extra fine.

Do i need to move back to my dmt coarse or even my extra coarse in order to even out the edges and then progress through the stones again? Or can i even it out on the fine stone?

Is the uneven grind the reason why i get some tugging?

It sounds like an inconsistent grind. Try and post some pics, that would make it a lot easier to see what was going on, and thus make it easier to give help.

it is possible that the grind on the knife is not flat. take a straight edge and lay it on the blade along the edge and see if you can see light underneath it. if you do, the blade is not flat. i get a knife in every now and then that is like that. the only thing you can do is sharpen it up and live with it unless you want to sand the blade flat.

Yep, that's what it usually is or an uneven edge grind with high and low spots.

mark the edge of your blade, before sharpening, with a sharpie marker. or use any permanent marker and do a few swipes to see if it is caused by yourself. use a light, steep angle and see if both sides look even. youre not trying to remove steel at this point just trying to see if its operator error.
