Uneven eye or fine?

Just picked up my first axe and after giving it a good once over, the head looks completely centered on the handle, but the slit cut into the eye looks slightly off center. Curious if this is anything to be worried about or it all looks good? Thanks!

Somebody used an abrasive, you can see the burning on the wood. I wonder if it's carried some metal over the top giving it that appearance. It should be mostly superficial if that's the case. But from that view it looks solid enough, if not super pretty.

Thanks guys. It's a Council Tools Velvicut Hudson Bay sold through Best Made. Got it at a huge discount so I jumped on it. The handle is burnt black as a finish (hence the dark color). I was a bit worried about the cracking around the staple in the wedge, but there's no wiggle, and the head is on dead straight in relation to the handle.
