Uneven Grinds

I just received my second Becker knife a few days ago, and now for the second time I have received a knife with a terribly uneven grind. The first knife I got was a BK7, and this most recent one I received was a BK11. From experimenting with permanent markers and a sharpmaker, I would estimate that one side of the blade is ground at about 15 degrees while the other side is ground significantly more than 20 degrees, possibly even approaching 25. The BK7 I have isn't quite this bad, but it is still uneven enough that it badly needs some reprofiling.

Has anyone else experienced this with Becker knives? I understand that for $50, you can't expect perfect knives every time, but I own several Spyderco knives that cost the same as or less than these Beckers, and they have perfectly ground edges every time.

What are other people's experiences with these blades?

what you are referring to as the "grind" is actually the edge. This is a hand operation after the bevels are machine ground, and hard to do on a large blade, hence the unnevenness.

Folders(ala Spyderco) are far easier to sharpen on power equipment.

Just use the knife and then reprofile as you see fit. It is a fact of larger production blades, in my experience.

The only Becker i have with uneven grind lines is the Bk10 and the lines do not bother me on this particular blade and i actually like the way it looks. But i do have a campanion with uneven EDGE grind but these lines will be straightened out over time do to hand sharpening. All my other beckers are perfectly ground (primary grind lines and edge grinds) even the larger blades like the Bk9. The Bk11 i have is perfect! and since it is not a large knife it should be as easy to sharpen on power equipment as a folder, but it is a manufactured blade and it's not so easy to get a perfect blade every time you order one and must be really frustrating to you when it seems to be a stream of bad luck but if you can't handle the blade at a sporting store before you buy you will end up getting less than expected from time to time and that will happen with any factory blade no matter what name is on it.

could be a function of the strike.....instead of a guy with ten year experience grinding the edge, you get a guy with ten days.
