Hello everyone. I just bought a new plain edge Gunting, only to find that it was unevenly ground. On the top of the blade, the area that is sort of ground like a false edge does not match at all. On one side, the grind intersects with the tip, on the other is much further behind the tip. The grind line is wavy too. I think the false edge might be ground at two different angles, not sure.

Has anyone else had this problem with their Gunting?

Is this a common problem due to the odd shape of the blade?

I had something similiar happen with a Starmate I had a while back, and had to send it back in. The uneven grind is pretty obvious so, it will probably get send to Spyderco tomorrow.

Other than this flaw, I really like the Gunting a lot. Great handle to blade ratio, excellent steel and I love the compression lock.

Jonathan, I dont know if it's supposed to be that way but if it's not, send it back, spyderco will make it right for you.

Send it back. My Gunting doesn´t look like that.

Great handle to blade ratio.../

*whispering* no, no, no, we want a four inch blade don´t we?

:D

It's not RIGHT..for sure...send it back...
It does happen once in a while..
but the grind on all of mine is very straight and true...not wavy like yours....
and there is no false edge on the back..its supposed to be perfectly flat....and the grind should intersect the center of the tip...
send it back..

glad that you like it over all....
Thanks for being so understanding...

Bram : I just called it a "false edge" because I'm not sure what the proper name is. I'll give Spyderco a call tomorrow. Cool little knife.

Colinz : 3 inches is ok by me. I've been looking for a 3 inch blade for a while, but have found that most have handles that are way to small for my hand. This is one of the main reasons I like the Gunting.
