I just picked up what looks like a calvary sword, with an open half basket brass hilt. the only mark on the sword is just at the base of the blade. It is a symbol of a rooster. The blade is 36' long and overall length is 42" long. can anyone tell me anything about this sword.
Thanks.

I know the French used the rooster for a symbol for a while (yeah, I know, let the jokes begin. :D)

Might it have been theirs?

Someone I spoke to today said that the Germans used a rooster trade mark,
and that they made these swords for the American Civil War. I'm still trying to find out more. Thanks for all the help

I would point out that anyone can any mark on anything... As Mr. Levine is so fond of saying "Read the knife!" Or in this case "Read the Sword." In order to do that we are going to need a picture.
