Unigrinder!?

Funny you should ask Derek. Yes, I have made one from the plans and am about 99% complete w/ it now. You are right it is a good looking grinder and I am very excited about being this close to getting it up and going. The plans are very complete and I followed them mostly. I did make some changes, especially when it comes to wheels and bearings. He calls for using water pump bearing and I could not find them at an affordable price. So Rob Frink did my wheels and bearings for me. You will need a decent drill press, band saw, large bits up to 3/4 (spendy devils if you don't already have them). Would I recomend the plans -- yes IF (note the caps here --- IF) you are an experienced metalworker with access to most metal fabricating tools (welder, drill press, hand grinder & sanders. If you decide to build one I would be happy to help if you have questions and help you however I could. He charges $50 for the plans and I believe them worth the price.

You better believe he's going to! And he'll be gloating all the way

Just teasing...but it will be a dandy. If my Burr King is like a stock Mercedes of the market...Bill's Unigrinder will be like the custom built model A, from the ground up.

Probably a lousy analogy, but I had to try

Bruce, where are you guys staying in Atlanta? I'm going to look into the costs of going, my dad might want to fly over...

Nick

I take a college machine night class. This quarter I want to make a mini-burr-king w/varible speed and small wheel attachment. I hope it works for folders.
Nick we are staying at the Ranasance Hotel next to the Blade Show. $129 per night. Thats their Blade Show special price. I called around some but everywhere else was higher. It will be convenient and less driving. We rented a car also to see the town. I hope we dont get mugged. I have the phone # in the shop if you want. book early. Airfare was only $271 ea. from Portland. Bruce B

Unigrinder? Where do I find out about this? Heck, I figure with a full metal shop, I should be able to build one

Design sure LOOKS interesting, but I haven't ordered the plans. I'm still trying to figure out what to do about a contact wheel. I don't thing solid metal/wood would be good. I wonder if an 8" caster would work

Charlie

You need a standard contact w/ a rubber surface on it. I don't think a caster or whatever would take its place. However he does call for using some polycarbonate wheels for the drive and the tracking wheels on the uni.

Contact Rob Frink about a contact wheel for the machine, super nice guy, easy to deal with.
