I have a UG Seb. that has hairline scratches in the graphic. Can these be polished out without sending it in to CRK for re-coloring? Or will the polish remove the film that reflects the color?

I noticed that in the UOFAQ, that CRK will re-color the seb. Have any of you done this? And, what is the cost?

Thanks for your help.

the coloring is anodizing, and polishing will likely remove some of the color. unless you are very careful.

you are better off sending it in to the shop for a refurb.

Hairline scratches are unavoidable. You need to call CRK but I don't believe they can re-anodize the coloring. IIRC to re-anodize will change the color. My experience with the graphics is that they are better left in the drawer if you want to keep them nice. The inlays do hold up well with use.

im guessing this knife isnt a user? :P

Actually, I traded it to a member who inspected it and (in the right light) he could see, what he described as, a hairline scratch in the graphic. It wasn't noticable to me, but to each his own. I would understand if there were a chip in the blade or something, but a scratch on the graphic so small that you have to look at it in the "right lighting" to see? I'm trading back and will be happy to have another Seb.

I think that a knife has no character until it shows wear from use anyway.

I plan to use every one of my knives, but this one I got specifically for trading as it is a right hander. I can't wait to get it back so that I can inspect the scratch. I hadn't noticed it before, but I suppose that there are people out there that are perfectionists. Go figure.
