Lisa has certainly taken the art pioneered by Chris to a very sophisticated level. It is, however, way cool to see Chris's early UG work as he was inventing the art. If you've got some graphics work that you've identified by the man himself, pls post!

At the risk of boring you one from a recent post, this was the 2nd Sebenza I purchased:

Couldn't find the popcorn icon, but tears of joy works. Very excited about this thread:applouse:

This one Chris held at the Plaza Cutlery show last year and told me he remembered all the time it took to make this one:

And I suspect this one was possibly done by Chris with a birthdate of 7/17/95.

I've never had a UG done by Chris, but you all have some very beautifull ones:thumbup:

It takes a master collector to start a thread like this.;) Let me lend a hand.

These have all been confirmed as being done by Chris, ususally via emails from Anne. The first is a Small P UG, with a purple anodized thumstud. Chris seems to like making circles, and the motif shows up often is his work.

This large P has a silver thumbstud and single large circle that changes as the light shifts. A very cool effect. It is accompanied by Regular #188, with graphics also done by Chris. FWIW, #188 has the earliest cabochon that I've yet seen. It's amethyst.

Here is #172, with an intesting lens effect.

This is #19, which made it's way back from across the pond a couple of years ago. It has what is probably my favorite graphic. The scene almost looks like a ship getting tossed in a storm. (photo by Mr. Ashton)

#169 Reg really has a different look to it, but again it was done by Chris.

And this UG is from 1997. I wasn't sure about the graphics, but Chris (via Anne) confirmed he did this one as well. This has been my "on again, off again" EDC for the last few years whenever I have hankering for BG42.

Here's a group shot. Since this was taken, the small Damascus has seen couple more owners, ending up with Lone_Wolfe above :)

It is interesting that the hues on this one and the ones above by Lisantica and fooj are similar. There is a certain look about the colors that is different than the modern ones--maybe more muted, or somewhere further from the primary colors. Is that personal artistic expression by Chris as compared to Lisa L., or maybe a difference in machinery? Dunno.

Is there a timeline to indicate when Chris stopped doing the graphics himself or was it a gradual thing?

From what I understand, Chris did all of the graphics until sometime in 1996-1997, when he trained Lisa L’Eveque-Hague and Scott Cook in the technique. In the years from 1996-2000, Chris did a few here and there (such as Wolfe's beautiful damascus small above) along with Lisa and Scott. Since then Lisa has done most, if not all, of the decorating herself. I have heard (cough cough - you know who you are), that Chris has tried to train others in the art form, but Lisa's work has remained unsurpassed. If she ever leaves CRK, then the Unique Graphic designs that we've gotten so used to appreciating will be gone as we currently know them.

I would surmise that the difference in colors is that, through out the years, Lisa's really dialed in the anodizing process -- the voltages, the dwell times, the masking, etc. I've done some using the same equipment, and my stuff never turned out as good.

I'm uncertain about this one. Birthdate 7/25/1994

Lisa, I believe your's is one of Chris's UG.

Here's small P30 -- it has a little different layout, but they're both clearly examples of the forerunners to the CGG "Stars and Stripes" design that was so popular way back when:

It's interesting how the design evolved. Here's mine, as a production CGG. This pic was taken by the seller I got it from.
