Unique Sebenzas Going Away?

So on a random post on Instagram this week from EKnives, they off-handedly mentioned with their restock notification on unique Sebenzas that unique Sebenzas were going away, and when I asked about that, a commenter mentioned that the artist responsible, Lisa L’eveque-Hague, is retiring. Is there any validity to this rumor? And if so, why would CRK not bother to train/hire a replacement? Would they really just end that line of art knives?

That is what I believe is true. There have only been a few(3)that I know of to have done the job- Chris, Scott Cook and Lisa, with lisa having done it for many years. Those with this talent are not easily replaced in a cost effective way. Maybe sometime in the future, but they are so backloged as it is.

I have heard this rumor since last year as well. I have not seen anything official from Chris Reeve yet. I think they are also working through their current stock of damascus and once that is gone, I think that is done as well. Again, all not confirmed info.

I wasn't a big fan of her work, but every now and then she'd put out something really nice.

Im more of a user, so I’ll always be too worried about scratching up Unique Graphic models. I had a Koi Pond Small Sebenza 21 at one point, but I ended up selling it after some time. Just too pretty.

Would be great as a display piece of a collector item, I just don’t have the desire to use it as much as a micarta or even a wood model.

Of course, theyre still CRK, so any of them would be a fine EDC or work knife.

Sad to see them go, and doubly so if the Damascus is truly going to be gone as well.

I feel like a lot of the “Grail Sebenzas” are those Unique Graphics. Some notable ones that come to mind are Morning Sun, Night Sky, Koi Pond, and of course the Halloween models.

I really enjoy Lisa's work and her story at CRK. There's a nice segment featuring her in The Exquisite Blade The Legend Of Chris Reeve Knives Part2 . Replacing her, if that were even possible, won't be easy.

I'm happy to have recently added this UG to my collection (sorry for the smudges). This knife may soon represent the work of 3 retired artists... Chris Reeve, Devin Thomas (who imo, made some of the most beautiful damascus), and now Lisa.
For sure this knife is a display piece. Not a user...

I wonder if it would just be CN Damascus that gets replaced with Damasteel?
I don’t know for sure, but I think CN has some interesting new damascus that’s being focused on?

I’m sure Larrin might know. Maybe he can enlighten us if he sees this.

My post was pure speculation based on the previous quote. I have zero inside information.

I ordered a Night Sky over 2 years ago. Shortly after, they stopped taking new orders because Lisa will be retiring. I received my Night Sky back in Feb, and it's gorgeous. And yes, I carry it (as a back up and in a leather slip.) I was told by the team at CRK that she's completing her backlog and then retiring. So this may be the end, at least for now, of the Uniques.

Artists don’t last forever, but their art will be around for a long while. Lisa did great work, cherish her art if you have it. I hope she enjoys her retirement!
