Theres not much talk of this on the forums yet, so I guess this is the "official" post.

Has anyone seen ANY "Glaives" other than those featured on blade/blade2? They're very unique weapons , DEFINATLY not tools. If anyones ever seen one or knows where to get one, post! Ideas and comments too.

Would it be possible for a knifemaker to custom design one? Only one I know of is the Blade copies..and of course the disc type weapon used in the predator movies.

Anyone have one of these? Comments on it?

Do they actually work? It is hard to imagine how one could throw these Blade 'glaves' with enough power to actually stick in a target. (Of course I'm assuming that the quality of the piece is such that it could take an edge and be thrown without damage).

The only Glaive I know about, from a historical context, is the European 14th century pole arm. Similar weapons were also popular in Asia. The "glaive" featured in Blade I and Blade II is a fantasy item.

To the best of my knowledge, the first mis-use of the term glaive for a throwing weapon of this general type was in the movie "Krull". I haven't run into it anywhere else except for that and the "Blade" movies.

I have always been puzzled about why they borrowed the name from a large polearm that doesn't even have a similar blade shape. Maybe they just liked the way it sounds? I do assume that the Blade folks got the idea, at least for the name, from "Krull".

Well, I've never heard it called anything else....the "disc" weapons aren't always meant to be thrown as well, mostly for hand to hand melee stuff I think. Personaly I think the cyclone is a piece of crap. Im lookin at the bloodbath.

Yes I knew that that there was a polearm called a Gliave or something of that nature...I've heard it before...

Maybe these disc type weapons didn't even exsist until recently....so I guess they just picked a name that sounded cool. :D

I guess that I wouldn't exactly call the bloodbath a "glaive" though.....seeing is how all 3 of those blade things would be impractical to throw....although fighting with that bloodbath looks very natural. Keep the posts comming guys!

I wonder if it would be hard to have something of that nature cumstom made? Maybe a new wave in fighting knives!

how the hell you gunna carry one? it couldn't be a folder for one, a fixed versions gunna be alotta work to draw and a auto would be dangerous. i love the idea for this thing, but its quit impractical, not to mention dangerous to the user. the only other posibilaty i can think of would be to A, build it biger wit more room to hold it, and B, make em small and use em in a gun like thing, over all it seams like to much work for a impractical device. it looks cool but i wouldn't trust my life with one,

until tried and tested :D

It's one of the stupidest fantasy pieces I have ever seen. The polearms make more sense. Most of the disk weapons are also jokes.

Well about being able to carry one, they fold. Theres a button on the back that allows you to kind of break it down. The idea for the cyclone is impractical, I agree..it cant really be used for anything but lookin'. However the bloodbath, the design is quite practical. There are many oriental weapons that consist of this notion, thats where they got it from. The only thing I see impractical about the bloodbath is the idea of throwing it like a disc...I agree though, I think it would be nicer if the middle section fit more to the likeness of a hand or grip, more erganomical, however its very usable.

No offense Jeff, but I think its ignorant to say its "one of the stupidest fantasy pieces..." It may be stupid to throw, but its not stupid to use as a melee weapon. This is why I was interested in a custum weapon like this. However, I think itd be very very useable if instead of the blades "swinging" side by side, to use have it break down like a butterfly opening its wings. (easiest way to describe it) that way, you can have a large ergonomical handle grip and a way to carry it conceled!

Something to add, many weapons at first glance seem impractical...however VERY practical to someoen who glances more than once. :) Just look at the "Iron Fan" used by feudal japanese warriors. ;D

Fireshaker:

I agree with you that the "Bloodbath" model is the only one that looks at all practical. It could be used somewhat like an Asian kama (or sickle), but the second blade would limit what you could do with it. Full-arm maneuvers would be okay, but wrist movements would put you at risk from the back blade.

Overall, I do think you'd be better off with a single-bladed weapon of a more conventional design. Exotic weapons can be effective if you have the right kind of training. However...the reason why every weapon-using culture has ended up with spears, swords, and knives as their most common weapons is because those are what worked the best under the widest range of conditions.

Indeed bob. I think for now im going to stay away from the Bloodbath however....due to the short size and stature of the "handle". However there are more techniques to use with that type of weapon..I would quite compare it to the kama, I dont exactly know WHAT to compare it to. I still wonder if there are actually weapons of this nature that ARE practical. I love the idea of a concealable weapon like that...especially which breaks down so easy, and comes with a sheath!

Let me know if you find any weapons like this, I've been searching..still nothing as of yet.

Here is a weapon I copied from a Predator comic book. I never got around to wrapping the handle or sharpening it but it is pretty cool just the same. It was laser cut from a sawmill blade about 4 years ago. I chisel ground the bevels so I wouldn't have to worry about getting them to match side to side:)

holy cow! That thing is WICKED! Thats the kind of weapon im talking about right there. Very very nice. How much apx would you sell that thing for if you ended up making it? If someoen wanted you to finish that project how much money would be involved? I really like that. :D

I'm easy :) And you have 1st dibs if you'd like it. See you mailbox

Im not sure if you got my email I sent recently (my connection fritzed) , but Id like to talk to you more about your weapon. :)

I have MSN and mIRC, you can reach me at Duneman_x@hotmail.com

Im new to dealing over the net like this , so If you could kinda help me along, id be appreciative. Im not even sure what the price range will be like so I may fall short. :/

I don't find those practical in the first place, and second I doubt that the folding version (ala Blade) would be able to stand up to the throwing, if it could be thrown at the first place.
Yes there's a polearm glaive and I personally think those would be cooler ;)
