I've tried explaining how to make a unitary belt sheath without using any rivets before, but it seems a verbal description is hard to follow. Here are some pics of one recent effort. There are four distinct and separate operations. In the first one the primary lengthwise fold is done over the knife, leaving a long wide flap sticking out. The second operation involves reheating that flap and forming the belt loop. The third operation is to form and fold the tabs around the edges of the sheath (which incidentally makes the edges that rub against your body very smooth and rounded). And finally the tip is opened up to allow the inside of the sheath to be washed out with water or an airhose. (If you've ever gotten sand in a kydex sheath you'll appreciate this feature)
No rivets, no studs, works rightside up or upside down. This is an optional sheath in addition to my standard should-rig variety. It makes use of the capacity of Kydex to be reheated and formed in many ways.
