Hi

Ive heard/read somewhere that the lastest version (Mastercutlery/HCG) of the First Blood and First Blood Part II handle hollow tube are made of STAINLESS STEEL instead of ALUMINIUM for the old 1989 United Cutlery ones.

Somes owners could test / verify with a magnet and confirm ?

Stainless steel isn't always magnetic.

Given that they put a compass at the end of the tube, my first thought was that I would sincerely hope they'd use a non-magnetic steel.

Though to use the compass it needs to be removed far enough also from the blade, so perhaps they wouldn't necessarily use a non-magnetic steel for the tube.

Positive identification will be easy: it attracts a magnet, so it is steel, not aluminium. I suppose if you have the knife in hand it should be fairly easy to distinguish between steel and aluminium by weight and where the balance is. A little scratch test on the inside of the tube would be telling as well.

i dont own the Mastercutlery / HGC version , hence my request here ...I will not order/buy it before knowing the hollow handle is stainless steel 100% confirmed.

I read, and even quoted, Killgar's comment, and responded accordingly.

Let me clarify: To confirm it is a magnetic steel is easy by use of a magnet.

Since that will not distinguish between aluminium and non-magnetic steel, secondary considerations such as weight/balance and/or a scratch test would help.

I understood that you don't have the knife in hand. Someone else here might, and could proceed as outlined above.
