What is this company like?

I am looking at this knife: The Fang of Baelin

Can anybody tell me if it's junk or a good knife?

I have handled it and it looks great and feels solid and sturdy. It is for display and is a gift for a friend.

Thanks

Dan

Sort of a relative term Dan, obviously it's a "Fantasy Piece"..., and meant for a display. If you are asking if there are far better made Fantasy Art pieces out there....OHHHH YEAH!!!! The blade steel on this one you have in mind is second rate stuff, but it's "pretty" if you are just going to use it for a conversation piece. I have held one.., I can't remember what the handle...middle...or whatever that stuff in between the blades is called is composed of. For what they cost, you can bet it isn't something actually "usable", and in all likelyhood, inexpensively produced.

I don't like them myself, but they are very popular. If you decide on that particular one I've seen it for as little as $40.00, but sadly I can't remember where. :(

If you look around the sites that sell similar items and lots of imported stuff, you will find a better price. I'm sure someone else can be more help..., but they sell these at a local SWAP MEET near me for just a little over $40.00.

See ya :)

I am not a fan of United Cutlery's knives. They use low quality steel because they know these knives are going to be for display and will most likely never be used for anything. For a gift that is for display only it should be OK.

Oh, and by the way, United Cutlery is definitely not a custom knife maker. They are a manufacturer of for the most part mediocre production knives.

Hi Dan,
Welcome to the forums. We use this particular forum to discuss hand and custom made knives by individual makers. I was kind of hoping this thread would just melt off the front page, but it is best for me to go ahead and move it now.

You may find that a few of us are not thrilled with UC knives, but when you think about it I wonder how many people may have been introduced to knives by less expensive and maybe not so good cutlery.

Anyway lets move this puppy over to the Knife Discussion forum in hopes that it will not be too rough over there. :)

Sorry if it appeared that I was being a little unkind. That was not my intent. I just wanted to point out that United Cutlery was not a custom knife maker.:)

Hi Keith,
I think you answerd Dan's question well. Just thought he would get more feedback here (and hoped it would not get to rough) :)
