What does United Cutlery have to do with custom knives? A lot.
At a recent show a buddy commented that the Hibben/United table was doing well. It usually does but I wonder how many people involved in custom knives today realize how much the impact United Cutlery knives have had in the making and collecting of custom knives.
I'm sure that many times it was a UC knife that was the first knife
that a,now custom ,collector bought just for the pleasure of owning knowing it would never be used.
I kind of see the people hanging at the UC table as being groomed
for customs shortly down the road.
In fact I have a personal friend that I recently saw move from the UC type knives to Les Robertsons table for his first custom tac.
I'm sure is a lot more common happening than we might think.
How about it? How many of you got your start in custom collecting
at the UC table?
A lot of things contributed to the great market we have in custom knives. The AG Russell catalog for one. The intense marketing and promotion of the custom tac by dealers like Les Robertson coupled with the good economy.
But I think that Gil Hibben and United Cutlery had and still have a huge impact on the great custom knife market we all love and enjoy.
