I will post a picture of this knife later. I have a UC Model 634 Knife. It has a Rubber like grip and a Brass Skull Crusher with Lanyard hole at the end of the handle. Its Stainless Steel and made In Taiwan. (I have had the knife for ten years or so.) A couple months ago I went out to a shelter belt and cut about thirty walking sticks and used that knife to chop off the small branches and lots of knots. Today I got the knife out to try it on the new Sharp Maker. To my surprise you could not even tell that the knife had been used and it was still razor sharp. This knife is no longer listed anywhere that I can find UC products and I have no idea what kind of steel it is. However its one tough SOB. The only other UC knife I have is a thrower. Anyone have any UC knives?

Until lately I considered it a cheap Big Bowie want-a-be. It has a seven inch heavy blade about a quarter inch thick. I guess my surprise is the obvious quality of the steel.

Here is a picture f this knife.

I bought the knife back about 12-15 years ago. Never used it much until this summer. I carried it all summer cutting walking sticks to work on this winter.

Gday mate
I have the same knife
my dad gave it to me when i was about 10 years old so that would have been in the early nineties
have you found out any more information about this??
mine is in reasonable condition the rubber handle moves a bit
its very similar to cold steel yes

we bought it at a swapmeet for 7$ if i recall correctly....
I Have never used the knife myself and it was in pretty good nick when we bought it
:)
cheers

I have owned a few of the Gil Hibben knives that are made by UC and I'm pretty sure they were AUS-8, 1090, and AUS-6, but they also make stuff in 420 J2, 440(A most likely) and 7Cr17 and probably a few others. If I had to make a GUESS I would say yours will either end up being AUS-6/8 or 440 cuz it seems like the AUS's are the most common steels used by UC, at least nowadays anyway and I heard once that a lot of their stuff was once made in 440
Here's a link to a UC knife that seems to me like it is the newer more modern looking version of your knife.

This is an old thread from 2007. Udtjim is no longer with us, may he rest in peace.

United Cutlery is no longer with us either. After they went out of business BudK started using the name for knives he's importing from China.

Back before United Cutlery went bankrupt their carbon steel knives were made by Camillus. Camillus also made carbon steel knives for Cold Steel, so it's not surprising to find similar knives with different brands on them. Likely the logo is the only difference.

Camillus is no longer with us either. A lot has happened since 2007....
