United States Flag Etiquette Question......

I want to put a regualr sized US flag outside my home but have a concern. I have two garage lights at each end. One end has a flag mount. I'm suspecting that once the flag is hung, it may touch (lower corner of flag) a medium size bush that underneath it. For proper flag etiquette, is this acceptable?

Also, leaving the two garage lights on at night acceptable to light the flag? It’s not directly pointed at the flag but has a flood pattern that illuminates front face of garage, driveway and sidewalk to street.

Thanks for your time, Jason

the light should be dedicated to illuminating the flag, which should fly freely.

but between the two concerns, i would trim the plants.

The last paragraph is interesting. There are occasionally news stories about HOAs and real estate management companies prohibiting individuals
from flying the flag outside their home or office. So far, most of the home owners have won.

There is a Federal Preemption of local ordinances restricting US Flags except for safety reasons.

Right. This is the paragraph that I was referring too.

Restrictions on Display of the Flag by Real Estate Associations
The Freedom to Display the American Flag Act of 2005 prohibits a condominium, cooperative, or real estate management association from adopting or enforcing any policy or agreement that would restrict or prevent a member of the association from displaying the flag in accordance with the Federal Flag Code on residential property to which the member has a separate ownership interest.

part of the problem is that these laws are not really enforced, and we honor them only through tradition and respect.
