I am trying to decide on a universal carry clip I have designed for my next realm of titanium folders. COMMENTS ON A UNIVERSAL CLIP?
This would allow the owner to decide on the carry tip up or tip down.
What do we do with the extra holes?

They could be used to attach a small nameplate, or other small acessories. This sounds like a way to dive into a whole new way of thinking; adding attachments. You could create an entire line of must-have accessories for the knife. For those who don't want to carry it, you could offer some sort of way to mount/display it, by affixing it to something, such as a plaque. You could offer a sort of molded finger grip for those who prefer tip up carry, since the clip would be attached at the back.

You could even design an entirely different clip. For instance, one that requires something clipped to both ends. Also, a clip on both sides, if they would both fit, might provide a clever way to mount/display/carry it.

A special loop, or hook could be attached at any angle you choose for who knows what purpose. What a great venue for creativity your trade is! Can'twait to see what you do with it!

Provide extra screws (maybe designer looking screws) to place in the empty holes. They can also be used as spare screws in case of accidental loss of any that are holding the pocket clip at the time

The screw heads on my Millennium Apogee are heat colored and carved and look GREAT! Having additional regular old torx or hex screws doesn't really do it for me, but having "special" screws to fill the extra holes would look fine.

Extra screws is a nice idea, but I think that they would need to be recessed flush with the slabs. the clip would have to be modified to attatch in recessed sockets.

I have wanted some sort of scalloped shaped titanium stud to put on the front side of my Genesis opposite of the clip to assist with getting it out of my waistband. Rainbow anodized and knurled would be nice. It would mount in the holes for the left handed clip.
Call me when its ready.

You could make plugs for the holes out of stainless all thread, then cut a small slot in the end for a small flat blade screwdriver. That way they could be completely flush with the handle.
If it has to look nice too, you could do the same thing only have the ends look kind of like a mosaic pin. Then incorporate the slot for the screwdriver into the mosaic pattern.
If its a knife that can be taken apart for cleaning, you could have the extra screws go in with the heads on the inside of the handle. You'd just have to make sure you had bushings or spacers to give the blade clearance of the heads. Or if its a solid titanium handle, have the heads recessed on the inside to make clearance. If you do it that way you could use chicago screws to hold the clip and regular screws for the plugs. The chicago screws wouldn't put out as easily since the recess in the handle takes way some of the bite for normal screws.

More of a whole clip design with a crude sketch, but how about this?

the scale material is shaped in a flattened I shape. In the void area, a flush clip is fitted. In the void area beneath the scale, the "tang" of the clip slips. There is a top screw and a bottom screw for the clip. The top screw attaches through a cutout in the clip itself. The bottom screw just attaches through the scale, through the clip tang, and into the liner. The clip is fully reversible, and there are no empty holes. and you can have a deep carry knife.

There are some issues to resolve, such as the pivot mount, but an off center diagonal clip solves that or even burying the pivot screw or reusing the pivot screw for the clip and so on.

As for attachments, if the attaching point is close enough to either end of the slab. You could make it a flattened curve, to attach a laynard instead of the lanyard hole. Or even us it to hide a steel toothpick or awl.

phatch - nice idea! Heat color or anodize the whole clip, and embellish it somehow... I like the deep-carry design. I always thought that was the best thing about the EDI Genesis. You could also include holes in the clip like EDI did that would allow easy access to the pivot screws. Your design would be very easy to reverse for tip-up or down carry. Nice job.

The decorative screws on the MA#1 are very beautiful, Darryl, and look great with the overall scheme of the design. But as a standard I prefer the set screws you used to fill the holes on my original set. Using these would alloy you to give the tip up/tip down option and give the unused set a more finished, sleek appearance.

Thank you guys, I like the idea too. No one has made one yet, and it certainly isn't my expertise or skill or financial ability to have such a knife and clip made for me.

Mark Douglas and JerryO hit the nail right on the head!

I also think that a hole should be drilled through the clip, so when it is mounted on the pivot end of the knife, you can adjust the pivot pin with the clip still on the knife.
