My family is going to Disney World and Universal in August. Could anyone tell me what rides are worth checking out (I like fast rollercoasters/rides). I went there once before, but I'm sure it has changed since I was 5 ;) Also, as we'll be spending a little under a week, what are the best uses of the time? We were thinking a couple days at Universal, a day at Discovery Cove, and a couple more at the main park.

I think I have a pretty good idea of what the answer will be, but can I expect lots of metal detectors and pat-downs, e.g. no knives in the parks?

I didn't get to Universal as my boy was little young and we felt if we were able to go in another year or so , we'd go there. I carried my Delica in pocket, clipped and had no problems, but they did check my bags and such. I really enjoyed SeaWorld for the roller coaster. I think it was called Cracken(?). Truthfully, I was a bit disappointed in Disney itself, but my boy isn't one who follows Disney that closely, so he didn't really know all the characters. We were there in April.Have fun.

When I was there on my honeymoon, they were selling knives and swords in the Castle gift shop. They had full suits of armor on up to authentic weapons. This was 8 years ago however. I think I had something at the time, maybe my cheapo one-handed opener that I put in my check-in on the flight down. I'm curious to know if they still sell them.

Was just down there in Feb. No pat downs, but at the park gates they do check your bags, sloppily. I could have smuggled in a dozen knives in the bottom of my back pack. I brought a half dozen blades with me in my check-in luggage, well-hidden, but they do go through them. None missing though. I carried a small SAK with me in the parks, no problems.

Got thoroughly searched for a concert at House of Blues...good thing I wasn't packin'...

Worth checking out:

Universal Studios - Revenge of the Mummy, Men in Black Alien Attack, Back to the Future (Not too many coaster type rides there, but a few cool 3D type things

Islands of Adventure - Spiderman, Hulk Coaster!, Dr. Doom fear fall (yikes), Dueling Dragons (coaster  ), plus a couple good water rides.

Definitely go to Sea World. The best all around park, IMHO. Shows, animals, Anheuser-Busch Hospitality Center  (if you're old enough ;) ), and the Kraken (oh yeah!), Journey to Atlantis, etc..

Disney is Disney...Animal Kingdom has the new Everest ride. Epcot has that Moon thing and the test track ride, MGM has the Aerosmith coaster and the Tower of Terror.

Actually, Busch Gardens has the most coaster type rides, I believe.

There are alot of package ticket deals combining various parks (not Disney, though, they do their own thing) out here right now. Buy online and get some smokin deals buy shopping around.

Good luck.

Lots of good ideas so far!

Although having my 550 at my side usually makes me feel more comfortable, I think I'll feel better not having to worry about it getting stolen during luggage checks, lost on a ride, lost somewhere else, or getting hassled by security.

All I can say from California experience is forget about trying to take a knife of any sort into Disneyland/world/whatever.
They will either confiscate it or you will have to walk back a mile and half to put it in your car.
