When I scored my first DB head the other week, I also landed this 4lb unknown felling axe.
It was a good deal, but had been described as 'very sharp' and 'ready to cut'.
That couldn't have been further from the truth, it was full of dents and was incredibly dull.
I set to it going steady on the belt sander, with a sanding block & 180 grit, finishing up with soft backed 240 grit to de-burr, and a hand strop with my palm.
After touching up the old 70/80's Draper the other week , I wasn't sure about the long helve, but I do think it's manageable with correct technique. I'll just have to practice, with strictly.
My bro said it was 'too sharp'...but I got home to a pile of curls so I guess he approves!
The double bit will have to wait a while. I'm waiting on my new "farmers own's" and a big bottle of vinegar!
Thanks for looking folks.
