I have never seen or heard of it, but the shape is very European and TURM is German for Tower. Also, 600 must be grams which translates to about 1.3lbs, so this is a hatchet head. Nice. I would guess an obscure local company or chain in Germany or maybe a promotional piece for same. Pretty unique.

A good place to look up German tool stamps is this site (by Wolfgang Jordan):
http://www.holzwerken.de/museum/hersteller/marken.phtml

Listed for "Turm" are these four makers:

Turm = Rhein. Werkzeugfabrik Rich. Peiseler Remscheid

Turm, unten viereckig, oben rund, mit spitzem Dach = Süddeutsches Präzisionswerk A.-G., Geislingen-Steige

Turm mit Fahne = Rhein. Werkzeugfabrik Rich. Peiseler, Remscheid

Turm mit zwei Fahnen = Ed. & Ad. Boehm, Remscheid

The one that might be a match is:

Süddeutsches Präzisionswerk A.-G., Geislingen-Steige
with the stamp described as:
"Tower, square below, round top, with a pointed roof"
(translated by google)

In the stamp on the axe, there is a tower with a square at the bottom, the top portion of the stamp is round, and the "roof" of the tower does look like it could be pointed (like a gable).

Thank you for the great comments, i have been looking in to this a bit today and i found this site via the link you provided me with. http://www.spw-vertrieb.de/seite.home.html this brand does have a tower as a logo but it doesnt really look like the logo on my hatchet, maybe that my hatchet has an older logo? who nows... i have looked a bit further on the internet but i just cant find anything. I will keep looking and posting it here if i find anything of interest on this hatchet. thanks again for your help
