Unknown Bowie Knife - Well Made Looking for info?

I bought this Bowie knife with a bunch of knifes and it seems to be really well made, just a shot in the dark if anyone might know anything about it. Can't even really tell what kind of steel it made from and if it's really worth anything other than what someone might pay for it... Any information will be greatly appreciated. Beautiful knife. Looks like it's original owner was someone named "Bowie" too. Probably made as a gift by someone with some experience in the craft. But without a tang stamp or anything else to go with it, your only option would be having to track the engraved handwriting that says, or at least I think it says, "To Bowie".

Looked more like "J. Bowie" to me. Much smaller than the "o" in "Bowie." Does look well made and the style looks kinda familiar. The guard and pins...
