I need some help if anyone knows the answer.
I saw a knife on the big auction site. It is a folder. On the left side of the model number there are 2 dots. Om the right side is a sideways V pointing to the right (1987 date stamp) followed by another dot. So its .. 110 >. but the dots are center as with other Bucks that have the dot year dates. Also which seems odd is that I have never seen a three dot with two dots on the left side.
If anyone knows why the blade would have this kind of stamp please let me know. AS they say curiosity killed the cat and I am very curious.
Thanks in advance to anyone who my know the answer. I sure don't.

Here's one that has One Dot and a sideways V... What it is, is Buck made some
kind of Change to the knife... The Dots were there way to keep track of what they
changes... It could have been a black spring or a spring holder or what ever...

:)

Here's a few Bucklites 422s with 112 blades...

Clear Green 3 dots... Dot Dot 112 > Dot ...

Clear one dot... 112< dot ...

:)

Mike, there are oddities like these that are found among Buck mfgs.. There are none who can identify why these occurred. They are rare and should be kept as a collector item. The 3 dot blades got the blade bushing and the 1987 model got the back spring change. As Early says, Buck often utilized a dot to indicate a change of something, mfg., design, material change, ect.. Notes sometimes surface about these that will give insight. Dots can be traced back in use from 1967 to 1987. A double dash was used in 92. Which is about the last of the odd stampings. In 2008 for a short time no year date stamp was used. I'd consider this odd.
Toward the blade steel, I would consider it 425M without the box and papers. Still, a item of discussion without conclusion. DM

Thanks for the pictures. They are quite interesting, especially for as many Bucks that I have and never having see one in person.

Thanks for the info. Very interesting indeed. Just for curiosity do the knives that have date stamps double stamped or half way off the blade and as such worth any more or less that other models of the same. Kind of like coins that have defects are more valuable.

I would say they are odd and are harder to find so that would make them very collectible

and harder to find for me... Like a coin leaving the mint... Buck tries to catch them before

they leave the buck factory... I collect odd stuff... So I look for stuff like that, Coins or knives...

But that's just me... :)

422...

Yea, I know what you mean. I always look for errors n the Bucks but don't find many.
I do have 3 or 4 Buck errors. One of these days I will dig them out and send you a photo.

Early, I was hoping / wishing I had more info. on this topic. But I have to scratch my head and read on. We have much information on the double dash and Some on dots that appeared in Joe's article in the Dec. 2005 issue. DM
Thanks, DM

About the 112 I got a mail from Joe some years ago. He wrote:

"The 112 that you described is one that I don’t see very often. It was made in late 1987. There was some sort of change that year that warranted a new date code mark. To be honest, I had only seen a 110 with that mark so far. I still do not know what the change was that caused the new mark but hope to figure it out someday."
