I recently got a "new" knife from my grandpa two days ago. After holding it for a few seconds, I quickly realized that this knife was in dire need of some good ol' rehab.

As for the unknown part, if anyone could identify it that would be great. Here is what I know: there are no blade markings, and no evidence of any being ground away, the handle is made of what appears to be wood (it is hard to tell with the tape residue, and paint on the handle).

Any suggestions on what to do with the reassembly would be great!

First pictures are of the knife in 'as-handed' condition.

There is a lot of blade play in the knife. After much deliberation, I have decided to restore it to as close as I can to what it was. I was going to put some nice wood scales on it, but I fear that may ruin the sentimental value to me. All I have done so far, is take it apart, and cleaned up the blade and guard.

All of the pieces apart before I cleaned them.

Kind of looks like it was a file at some point
