Hi there everyone! Nice to finally have a reason to post/join on here. Lurked without an account for a while, then signed up.

Today I've got a few questions relating to some knives of my grandfathers. My grandparents ran a small town store in Illinois and sold Schrade knives. After the store closed my grandfather had a sizable collection of knives from both collecting and from the business. As he passed away a few years ago, my grandmother is wanting to sell off some of the firearms, antiques, and knives he collected. I am off from college for the summer, and offered to help.

I've been looking into prices on ebay and such to try to figure out what some of his knives are worth. So far I've looked into: 153UH, 206, LB5, Apex AP5’s, 227UH, 156OT, LB1, 120T, 807UH, 833UH, 858, 1230T, 168UH. I have a number of knives of his I have not been able to find much information on through ebay or on collectors-of-Schrades.com (great site by the way, thanks to the operator of that). If I could get some help identifying them and figuring out how much they are worth, it would be greatly appreciated!

First off are a number of knives that were given to my grandfather from Schrade as a thanks for his business. I have one 330T from 1983,two 194OT's from 1984, one 180T from 1986, and three 72 OT's from 1987. Each is brand new with original box, and almost all have full paperwork. Blades are etched on each as well (as shown in pics).

Included with the paperwork is this sheet:

Here is the rest of the album, with pictures of the individual knives, paperwork, blades, etc.:

Are these fairly common knives or a bit more unusual? What would be expected sale prices on them?

My next question is on a Limited Edition Thunderbird Scrimshaw. It is brand new in box and packaging and has a fancy beaded sheath along with it. When were these made, and how much are they worth?

My third question is on a new condition Uncle Henry 705UH. I have the paperwork along with it, but not the original box (it's in a 825 OT box right now). I was only able to find one of these for sale and was rather unsure on pricing. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

My final question is on a Schrade Stainless Steel Hunting and Fishing Knife. This one is definitely used and the blade has been sharpened, but is in overall good condition. Interesting little knife, and I'd appreciate any information/value anyone has about it.

Thank you for all the help, it's greatly appreciated! Let me know if there is any other information you'd like about the knives or if there's anything I should know about the ones I have. Thanks again!

All the best,
Andy

The Thunderbird was an issue of 10,000 pieces in 1981. On a bad day you can get $50, on a better day $100 and on a great day someone MIGHT give you $150. Probably not.

Good stuff Andy. Finding out what they are worth is fairly subjective, and unpredictable. I observe there are a lot of different tactics used on Ebay, and a lot of different results. I've watched the Ebay Schrade market fairly close for quite awhile. That first list you posted has some good sellers. You won't find a published source for determining values but you've found the best two places there is for learning more about Schrade USA knives. Good to see you post.

My mouth just fell open. Nice set!

As far as value, those Old Timers with the Compliments etchings usually sell in the $50-$100 range. Since you have all of the paperwork, can provide a bit of history on these, and can take good photos I'd guess your's would be in the upper end of that estimate.

These Compliments knives have been discussed here multiple times and several of us specialize in Old Timers. Is there any chance before you sell those that you could take and post a photo of the remaining Compliments knives? And is there any chance you could add any information to our most recent topic?

Specifically, do either of your 194OT Compliments knives have this colored logo?

Hi Bob W,
I think I may have all of the give-aways Schrade made to gave out to the Dealers, they do not come up for sale often. Howevr I have never seen them sell for much over US$60
I just had a look at your 194OT, never seen one like that.
Whats it worth? you will forget that soon - and if you sell it, you will not have it.
If you have two of them, you can sell one - if not keep it...
I have an SP1 Nighthawk, 33OTx2, 194OT, 89OT,8OT,72OT,3OT,34OT,108OTx2,18OTx2 and a 104OT all give-aways with paperwork...in Brown boxes. Ken

Thanks for the list, Ken. I only have two so far, but at least now I know which ones I'm missing. :)

Thank you gentlemen for all the help!

I think before I sell anything I'm just going to sit and watch the ebay market for a bit. Figure out what selling styles work best and try to learn a bit more about the knives in my possession. Starting to get somewhat attached to them all anyways; I can see why you all collect them!

Also, Bob - I posted in both. Let me know if there's anything else I can do/help with. As is rather obvious, I don't know much about Schrades, but I'm doing my best to learn!

Lastly, I went ahead and took some pictures of all the knives last night. I think I have most of the information I'll need on the majority of them, but if you see anything of note, etc. on any of them, please let me know!

Thanks again for all the help! I'll let you all know when I list items in case anyone's interested.
All the best,
Andy

Hi Andyjp,
Please let me know if/when you deside to sell the 12OT Compliments knife, I do not have one of them.
If you sell on eBay, you should indercate postage to Australia, as we like Schrade knives over here. Ken

Hi Andy, Sorry to hear of your Grandfathers passing. :(
Lastly, I went ahead and took some pictures of all the knives last night.
I glanced over your collection here, and one knife stuck out in your last photo.
On the upper right, just to the right of the ThunderBird, you have what I believe is called a "Steelhead" knife. If I recall, it's a fairly rare knife to find now days. It's simply one of the best filet knives available and hard to find. I have one socked away somewhere. There are plenty of Chinese copies, but few of the real thing available. I suspect this is why your Grandfather included it in his collection. ;)
PS, Nice collection. I see quite a few nice ones. :)

Thanks Ballenxj! I've really been debating keeping some of the knives. (( rules violations )) but there's some (like that one) that I'm thinking I'll hold onto for a bit.

Well, your sale of 8 knives has ended.
I hope that the moderators will allow me to make some comments,in order to help you and other members who are in the same situation.
Your total received was $292.27 plus $44.00 shipping costs for the 8 knives. The auction site took 9% of both,or $30.26.
Since you posted lots of pictures for each auction, your posting fees likely totaled more than $8.00.
The auction site requires all buyers to pay thru their service, who also took 3% plus $0.30 per transaction for a total of $11.17.
So,the auction site got $49.43 of your $292.27,or 17%,leaving you with $242.84 or an average of $30.35 per knife.
That is pretty low, considering the condition and quality of the knives you had listed.
There are other auction sites that are much cheaper but they don't have as much knife-nut traffic.
Before you list any more, you should investigate the cost of upgrading your membership and listing your items on this site's Knife Exchange.
