Just bought a Spyderco off of ebay, and I need help figuring out what it is. It has a plastic clip, a Spyderhole, FRN handles, and is marked "Spyderco G-2 Stainless" on one side, and "Seki-City Japan" on the other. It is fully serrated. I've never seen one in G-2 before, although I have heard of them. What is G-2 similar to?

I don't even know what G-2 is. Could you verify that is says G-2 and not something like D-2?

Images would also be helpful.

Spyderco used G2 steel several years ago. It is a high quality stainless steel.

My Endura is marked G-2, from what I've heard it's the same steel as Gin-1, just a different designation.

They are the same steel. Is the one you bought an integral clip model?

It is most likely and early 90s model. I have two from then myself. Both are also marked G2/Seki City Japan.

You can still read about GIN1 on the Spyderco home page steel information sheet. http://spyderco.com/edge-u-cation/index.php?item=3

Hi LL,

On some of the FRN Spydies, the name of the knife is on the handle. There should be a circle in the center of the non clip side of the knife with the "bug"
molded in the center. Around this it should say "clipit" and the name of the knife.

Hope this helps.

Jees, I must be getting old to have missed "Delica" on the handle! Thanks for the tip Bruceta. Pretty soon I'll do some testing and let everyone know how G-2 stands up. But before I do that, I'm going to grind a plain edge on there and fix the tip.

G-2 Delica's with integral clips are great. I love them. I kinda actually love them more than the new models :)
