Unless I buy a knife meant for this, is there any way to rig a sheath to the leg?

Most dive knives are meant to be worn on the leg, but most other knives are not. If I bought one that didn't include a leg sheath, could I rig it there somehow? Would I have to buy some custom equipment?

For example, I might try to do this with a Kershaw Trooper.

Hey TMG....

You can buy rubber bands from dive shops I believe for doing this sort of stuff...

You can also use webbing straps,,or the handy man's secret weapon..
Duct Tape..:)

Wouldn't be a problem to convert certain types of sheaths...

Normark could probably also make you something :D Click on the link in his signature line. I have a couple of his pieces and reccomend his stuff without reservation.

And do you suppose the sheath of a Kershaw Trooper would be one of those sheathes? I wouldn't do something as crude as taping it to my leg... not sure if you were serious or joking with that comment.

To the people who suggested sheath makers: Do you have an estimate about how much the project I've described might cost?

While it might me just a little tedious, you could wrap the existing sheath to your leg using an "Ace bandage".

Are those the rolls of cloth meant to wrap around wounds? I think if I was going to do this more than a couple times a month (which I plan to) it would get tedious, yes. Also I'm not sure how well it would stay in place when/if I ran or jumped.

I guess you are looking for something like this Bladerigger leg-down sheath...unfortunately, this particular model costs many times more than your knife

You could use a blousing garter (available at military surplus stores) along with a standard belt sheath. If you have large calves you might need to use 2 garters and some needle and thread work to get the right size.

You can also use 1/2" or 3/4" nylon webbing with plastic snap together connectors and fasten this “belt” above the top of your calf.

TMG...

Not sure what the Trooper looks like.. If you can send me a picture, I can give you a better idea..

As far as duct tape goes....

Yaaa I'm serious....

Who jokes around about duct tape ??

Hey TMG..

Ok,, now I see....

Well right off the bat,, you'll looking at a custom sheath job...

Something like that from me would run you about $45.00 to start...

That will get you a basic sheath, that will do IWB or just a straight belt sheath..

To get it into the water,, we'd have to discuss your options, and how you plan on wearing it...

By the time you are done,, may be better off just buying a Dive rig....However if you plan on wearing it around,, this won't be a problem with one of my rigs...

Drop me a note if you would like to talk about it further..

Well I don't want it as a dive knife, it doesn't need to get wet. I only mentioned dive knives because they are frequently attached to the calf, as I would like to attach a knife. I might take you up on the job sometime, but it'll be a while. I'm about to spend $300 on a different knife, and after that I'll have to save up and buy the Trooper before there's any point in getting deeper into this. I'm just looking down the road right now.

How the hell can that thing cost $275...

Anyway, it doesn't matter. The guy at survivalknife.com says he'll make me one for $49.95. Yippie.

Duct tape only hurts the first couple of times it comes off, when the hair is gone it barely stings at all.

When I was racing motorcycles we always said that the only repair kit that anyone needed was a roll of duct tape and a spool of binding wire.
