Unlined G10

There are some knives out there which have G10 scales with no liners, meaning the stop pin, pivot, spacers, etc, are sunk directly into the G10.

How strong is G10 compared to a knife that has metal liners to hold the pins and screws?

G10 is incredibly strong. Within normal use, there should be no need to worry about the strength. Cutlerylover posted a video on YouTube recently where he broke a new model Recon 1 and the unlined G10 handle held up fine, but the blade actually snapped instead.

This will answer your question.

G-10 & G-11 (Garolite)

Garolite material is formed from fibers or glass fabrics woven in resins to form a laminate. These materials are generally excellent electrical insulators. Common applications for this material include high humidity applications, electrical.

I'm just an old fashioned knifeknut and I will not have a knife with only G-10 handles, it got to have some steel/titanium liner's for me to sit up and take notice! I've seen some reports that agree with what Orion's Belt said, that G-10 is a strong enough material to be used without liners. I guess the thickness of G-10 would dictate how "hard" the knife could be used. As I understand it the new Cold Steel folders using this method have some thick handle slabs!

Linerless G-10 handles seem to hold up just fine, even under hard use. Old Enduras and Delicas had FRN handles with no liners and people seemed to like them just fine.

The American Lawman is G-10 only, and its one seriously tough knife.

Heres Andrew Demko himself putting the Lawman to the test:

(at least under normal use for me)

That's exactly the point. They are tough enough to be used as knives. That is, for cutting. If you want to pound them point first into a wall with a sledghammer and then bounce on the handle... No, they will probable not be strong enough. Does that make them inferior knives? Nop. It doesn't.

From my point of view, anything that allows you to carry comfortably a bigger blade with less weight (deleting the steel liners from the equation), is great. Even if you don't intend to carry a bigger blade, carrying the same blades you carry now but with a few grams less... is also a nice improvement. Also (even though it might not apply in this way) the less metal... the cheaper the finished product should be!
