Well, after lurking in this forum for quite a while I finally put an order in tonight.

Not starting off too fancy, but the allure of the slip joint has had my eye for quite a while. Just ordered two Queens. 1 cocobolo whittler and a BEM small stockman.

I think they'll make a nice addition to all my Scrap Yard & Busse blades! :D

So, any guesses on how long before I end up buying a custom?

Welcome to the 'other side', welcome to the addiction ;)

That depends on your income, how expensive your other hobbies are, and if your married ;) ....

But, a conoiseur of Scrap Yard & Busse level knives, and a start with queen, I give you about 6 months before you decide you realy, realy NEED a custom. :D

G.:p

Oh, I don't know. I've got a pile of pocketknives, but no customs. On the other hand, most of my sheath knives are customs.

Depends on what you like.

Not to long if'n you are anything like me when I had bucks, no spouse and no kids.. 1980's was when I first discoverd Bob Cargill customs and some others :D

My advise is:

Use the Queens. They are typically fine slipjoints to edc and use hard. Then, if you feel like you are pleased with the performance(which is inevitable:cool:) then try a custom.

And Welcome to the Traditional forum. :)

I can't back this with scientific proof, but i hear that knifeaholicism is the most addictive vice there is. Welcome to the fold brother! Look forward to seeing pics of the new purchases.

Me thinks flyfishing is slightly more addicting. ;)If I don't fish just about every weekend, I feel like a junkie needing a fix!

BTW, Welcome ColdOne! I say if you have tasted customs with other types of knives, it won't be long before you'll want to get a custom slipjoint. I am in that situation now.

Well, I have long since been bitten by the knifeaholicism and have started attending annual meetings in Atlanta..

I have just found that the nice lines & simple traditional look of slippies to be calling to me!

It'll probably be the better part of a month before I see the new items though. Some time to save. :D

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Take a drop of mineral oil and rub it into the BEM scales. I'll bet you'll be surprised at the color that shows up. :) Mine went from average to looking like a custom gunstock.

Thanks for the tip!

I've got some tung oil that I use on my old enfields. I really like the look it gives the wood so I might try it as well. :)
