Unmarked Gransfors??

I recently got a Gransfors Hewing Axe from Lee Valley on a big discount as it looks like the former owner used rasps or a grinder of some sort on it. Anyways get home and find that it does not have a makers mark on it. The stamp on the handle is the same as on my carpenters hatchet, but this handle is very unfinished, unless the owner tried to carve little flats all over it. It almost looks like it was a factory second or something- or it was hung before the sanding phase. Almost like it is a fake, but I trust Lee Valley that it is real.

Has anybody seen anything like this before- I'll try to get pics up in a couple of days if I get the time?
 
sounds to me like the original owner broke the original handle and then rehandled it (albeit badly)...not to mention ground the crap out of it......those makers marks are over a 1mm deep

when you take pics, can you take a shot of the REAR, Bottom part of the ax head, like this pic here:
