I have a Malla that I bought at the convention back in September and it has no marks on the blade at all, not even "HI". I know it is a H.I. and I was wondering if anyone else got a khuk like that. My Malla is made extreamly well ie habaki style bolster has no seam, chiruwa handle slabs are totaly flush and the blade has a perfect mirror on it! The blade is also more like a BAS or a WWII than a Malla. This is one of my best khuks and I just thought it was funny that who ever made it did not mark their perfection!! They probibly just got busy and forgot!:)

I guess any handle style can be put on any blade, but my Malla experience is limited to one blade, and the pics on the HI site and Howard's FAQ - ie: Limited :) Your description makes it sound like a Chiruwa BAS or WWII with a narrower blade. What Cho does it have?

They sometimes don't mark a blade for some reason -- probably busy. I'd guess about 1 in 7 or 8 hundred will come in unmarked but they are not hard to ID as an HI product.

My UBE also doesn't have a mark, though I think that the workmanship says "Bura". The chakma and karda are extremely well done in finish, and the handles of all three seem to have come from the same piece of horn.

Hi Wal, It's cho is a malla cho and then some! The cut out reminds me of a dragon with it's head back, I've never seen a cho like this, it's amazing!!! The spine is also flat like a Malla. If I had to guess I would say that Bura or Sanu made it, it is to heavy for Durba. Heak it might even be Kesar!!! The karda and chakma are done very well. I think I'll call it the "hybrid" mystery! It's kind of odd but all of the sudden I found myself carring it all over the place. It is slowly becoming one of my favorites!!

The Malla I got at the khonvention is marked by the KNN and also has the H.I. mark on the other side.
I haven't checked mine against the original, but it seems to me that niether cho on the two Mallas at the khonvention were like the original for some reason.
And then again it may be my memory acting up yet again. ;) :D
They're both pretty cool Mallas though.:p  :D

Mine has the standard rat tail tang.
My memory is fadeing fast as to what Chris's Malla was like and yet it seems like I preffered the one he picked, but y'all know why mine has the standard handle.
Given a choice I will always pick the rat tail tang and I had first choice, as y'all know I don't care for the chiruwa handles.:p :)

I have a Sirupati marked KGR SN67. I have no idea who made that, I bought the knife two years ago, I don't even know what Kami's were there back then ;) .

Yvsa, why do you not like the chiruwa handle? I'm sure you told me but some times my mind forgets everything!:p
