Unorthodox Repairs

A little backstory. After kneeling recently, the bending on my steel toed boots caused some part in between the steel and outside leather of the boot to come out and hang down between the steel and the inside liner. It created a ridge along the inside top of the toe area that pressed against my toes all day and was incredibly annoying. No matter how much I played around with it I couldn't get it back to how it was supposed to be. Then earlier today I finally had an idea.

I carefully reached inside the boot with my knife and made an incision in the liner where I felt the ridge. I reached in with my fingers and felt that it was a large piece of rubber. I worked it back in between the leather and steel until it all popped back in and was smooth again. So far it hasn't come out since.

So it made me wonder. What all kinds of simple "repairs" have you made with just a knife that had really effective results?

Can't think of any of any worth mentioning. Just boring stuff...….but i did file down a broken tooth with a diamond file and wet and dry about a month ago. No dentist because of Covid-19....lol

I received an Emerson UBR Commander that had some undisclosed lock rock because the Wave feature had caused the thin little liner lock to fail a bit (it was at 100% and would disengage when light pressure was applied to the spine of the blade). So, I cut down a .22LR round, took the knife apart, and slid it over the stop pin (it fit perfectly), and suddenly the lockrock was gone, and the lockup went from 100% back to like, 75%. Pretty hilarious that it worked.

Sounds like a good idea. I'd like to see that, got pics?
