Unscrupulous e-bay sellers

Yeah, I noticed that too. I had those two on my watch list. You mean you don't believe the items were "lost or broken"? :jerkit:

Dave

No,I don't believe that, especially since he also did that for 3 other auctions that I found:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=48820&item=6613500153

I believe LT mentioned that this goes on frequently with pushbuttons.

Edited to add;
This seller sure gets a lot of mint Schrades. One of his ads makes this statement ME AND MY TWO BROTHERS DEAL IN KNIVES SO SOME ITEMS MAY COME FROM OTHER LOCATIONS.
Now,that makes me wonder if he's tied in with the Tennessee mafia?
Also makes me concerned about "shill bidding" between the three.

Ron

First time I've seen that...and it won't be the last.

That seller gets pretty defensive on the negative feedbacks...lol.

Best way to combat that kinda seller is to not bid on anything he offers. Period, zip, no way. Ever.

Here's a peeve from an Ebay seller (me): I'll have an auction end with no bidders. Then get an email from someone who had been watching the item, but was away from his computer when it ended, so he couldn't bid at the last second and get the item cheap. My response is if you wanted it so badly, why didn't you bid on it instead of putting it on your 'watch list'. That buyer goes immediately onto my 'banned bidder' list. Same thing with reserve auctions I rarely put up there, mainly on request when I sell something on consignment. The auction will end, and the offers will come in, from people who never bothered to make a bid. Oh, by the way, the wanna-be buyers also want a slightly lower price because our transactions will be 'off-ebay' and I won't have to pay seller's fees. And if they pay money order, instead of Paypal, they want a discount on that because I don't have a paypal fee to make.

Phil

Yeah, I hear you Phil...

I've 'forgot' to bid on something and then note that nobody else bid on it either. Oh well, No second chance for me.

What frosts me is when I'm bidding something hard, and end up losing a bidding war, then 2 days later the guys emails me and asks if I'm still interested. Well, sir, let me think....NO! Let Mr. moneybags buy it, he won the auction! What's that you say? He was a deadbeat bidder? Oh well, we live and learn...

Glenn

Woops...
Last week I honestly missed bidding on an object and wrote the seller asking if it was still available, offering no price. Never heard back. Hope I didnt make his bad list..

Ebay is just a marketplace, albeit a very large one. It's everything from a garbage dump to the equivalent of a large retail store. There are good and bad sellers and good and bad buyers. The same can be said for the traditional retail environment.

Once in awhile I browse the completed auctions and find something interesting that went unsold. I have bought many items like this from sellers that were happy to do the deal, and on a few occasions, I never received a response to my inquiry. I figure it's up to the seller to deal with that as they see fit; nothing ventured, nothing gained.

As far as sellers ending auctions early, this also happens a lot. In the case of the listings posted by Ron, none of those auctions had a bid, so no actual committed buyer was out anything. The only way that I know of to keep the rug from being pulled out from under you in those situations is to bid early.

Redshanks,
That is not true !!
I had bid on both the 61OT and the 858,and there were 3 other bids on the 858.
I can forward both bid cancelation e-mails,if you don't believe me.
When a seller wants to pull this stunt,he has to cancel all bids on each auction first. Then he has to close the ad.After that,if anyone looks at the ad,it will show no bids on the main auction page but if you check the bid history,it will show the canceled bids.
Here is the bid history for the 858:

Here's a copy of one of the cancellation notices:

Sorry Ron, my mistake. I glanced at those listings, saw 0 bids and just assumed that was the case. My apologies for shooting from the lip before being correctly informed.

Easy mistake to make, redshanks.. when a seller ends an auction early, he cancels all bids, hence, no bids are showing. I hate it when a seller isn't getting as much as he wanted on an item, so he ends the auction early. That's frequently a mistake, I've seen some huge price increases in a matter of seconds.

Redshanks,
That's no problem.:D I didn't don't know that canceled bids will still show on the bidder list until a few months ago.
Phil,
He had a $40 bid on the 858 with 2 days to go,but it would only show $33.10 - a buck higher than the 2nd place bid.
As you say, usually the serious bids come in the last few minutes.
I think he just got a very high offer that he couldn't refuse.Since he's closed 5 in two months,he may have some "regulars" who make those off-ebay buys frequently.Or,he may have a shop and sold it over-the-counter.
Either way,he's screwing his eBay bidders and watchers who have invested time for nothing.
Like you say,he's on my seller blacklist.
Ron

where they will take some sort of action against sellers like this. He is getting away with only paying them the listing fee and not the sales fees also which they don't like. When I sell something (rarely) I will never reveal the reserve or end the auction early. I list this in the ad. You would be amazed at how many people still email me and try to get the reserve or buy offline. For you guys that miss auctions, why don't you use sniping software?

Steve

I am new to this forum. Thank you guys for shedding some light on this low down dirty way of ebaying. I was so mad at myself for not being there for the end of the auction. I thought I had really missed out. He definitly received offers he couldn't refuse. Someone should flush Woodtic down the toilet!
