Unserrating a partially serrated edge?

Anybody ever ground a PS blade down and re-profiled it to be PE? I have a PS Byrd that I bought cheap. I tried to use it to saw through a section of old poly tarp that got wrapped around my mower shaft and discovered that the serrations just catch in the tarp and make it impossible.

I doubt I'll try it: I own plenty of PE knives that will do just fine, but it got me thinking about folks who buy a PS knife and then discover it doesn't suit them.

Anybody done it? Pix?

Yeah, I've got an old BM 705 PS that had been buffed within an inch of its life anyway, so it is now a recurve. It currently resides in the bottom of my knife chest with the rest of my BM knives. If I ever get it out, I'll snap a pic of it for you, but don't hold your breath in anticipation.

Yeah,I reground an old f.s.Police model I bought back in 90.Lost it in my truck for about 5 years, talk about dull!I could'nt bring the edge back on my Sharpmaker. Now you'll have to understand that I'm lazy and not very creative.I ground the serrations off on a Firestone electric sharpener. Then honed it up some more on my Sharpmaker, and finally polished the edge on a strop. It's razor sharp, but the electric does a little number on the tip. What the heck,it's serviceable.

i have done quite a few but i dont have pictures. i use my belt sander that i have set to run slow.

I've removed partial and full serrations with my edge pro... (note to self, get more coarse stones)

it's easy, well, easier than you might think, but it sure chews up wet stones.

I'd say use a grinder or belt sander to speed up metal removal, I think I have a few pics of a fully serrated kitchen knife turned plain edge by my edge pro when there was nothing to be done at work one day.

"close up" after removing the serrations, before I gave the knife two bevels.

I've done it on a belt sander many times. It makes the blade thinner of course, but you can blend it in to look good.
