Unsolicited advice for the 'rat folder'

The latest posted photo I saw of the 'rat folder' has two features that need attention, in my opinion.

The choil cut-out:
If it's not large enough to accomodate a forefinger, what purpose does it serve? Enlarge it or forget it.

The thumb-placement area on the spine:
Mill some serious non-skid cuts for firm thumb purchase.

For clarity, examine the blades of the Spyderco Military or Strider SNG/SMF folders. The blade ergos on these blades are outstanding - very superior to what I saw on the 'rat folder' proto photo.

Everything else looks just fine.

This advice is worth exactly what you paid.

If you search around a bit, you'll find that the choil issue has already been addressed to some extent, and they are planning on shrinking it down. Several folks (myself included) said exactly what you said about the size of the thing.

The non-skid cuts on the back of the blade are a good idea. I like the ones on my AFCK just fine.

So... Eric... any more current pictures of the "Rat Trap" available?

Getting rid of the choil and implementing the simple checkered spine thumb-traction area would make the 'rat folder' blade about the same as the AFCK. Quite correct. Is that what the 'rat folder' is to be?

So - why bother buying the 'rat folder'? I already have an 806D2 that sits unused. It's a brick-in-hand. I carry either my Military or SMF instead - precisely because of the superior blade ergonomics of those blades.

If the 'rat folder' is to be just an AFCK/806D2 clone, I'm not interested.

Shomer-Tec catalog for 2005, page 76 -- Swamp Rat folder. Limited supply. (Can't-miss price.)
