This 3 1/4" custom made knife was supposedly made in 2000 by a maker who lives in Japan.
It is unmarked.
I had a great deal of difficulty getting my camera to focus. These are the best pics i can take.
Looking down on each of the 4 sets of liners:

Any ideas as to the knifemaker ?
Have you seen another knife made in this manner ?
All comments will be appreciated. They do not have to be glowing "oooh's & aaaw's", more of an educational nature is what i'm hoping for.
thanks, roland

Roland,
i believe this pattern fits under the classification of a form of "barrel" knife, though there are other types of barrel knives too. bill claussen owner of northwest knives & collectibles (? no contact info, he used to have a collection - older examples of these, such as yours. i have seen maybe two or three in antique knives, they are scarce. If you can track down knifemaker Richard Rogers he might tell you a history of this knife pattern- he has made award winning modern examples of these if memory serves.

Thanks David. I knew the name Barrell knife only as applied to a Swedish style in which the blade is hidden in a barrell shaped handle.
So i have a Barrell knife which is a vintage pattern going back to Golden Era Sheffield days.
This knife came from Bill Claussen.
Now, anybody know of a Japanese maker of these ?

I remember that 2009 thread. I was very impressed with the patterns and hadn't seen them before

Are there no markings anywhere to give a clue as to the maker? If not, it's value would be significantly undermined. Looks like Zebra Wood for the handle...?
Here's one of the Newton barrell knives you may have seen. I shot this one for Ron at a show out in Santa Barbara a couple of years ago.

Buddy, thanks for showing the above Ron Newton knife. I have just been all over my knife again: blades, liners, springs at the base of the liners; not a mark anywhere. I do not understand why a maker would fail to mark it.
It was my hope that someone here would recognize this knife and know the maker.
Part of the reason i own it is, being unmarked, it's market value is rather low.

Maybe it's not a custom knife by a custom maker. For example, it could be a prototype by a factory.

Maybe it's an unmarked Rough Rider ? They make excellent knives and the price would be correct for what i paid.
