While metal detecting I discovered a very old axe head about 6 "below the surface. It has a strange protuberance on the bottom back of the head. Never seen anything like it. Can anyone help me figure out what this is and how old it might be? I'd like to post a picture but I'm new to the forum and can't figure out how to attach a picture. Can someone educate me on how to attach a picture?

You have to host the image on an external site and then link the URL here.
Unfortunately I don't have a way to do that. Off the back of the axe head, there is an approximately 1" by 1" protuberance coming off the baxk of the head at about a 30 degree down angle. Any ideas?

Without a better description and/or photos we have literally no way to determine it besides blind guesses.
